Desiderata – a poem by Max Ehrmann -DISSECTED
Desiderata is a poem by Max Ehrmann, a lawyer from Terra Haute, Indiana first published it in 1927. I am putting the and then we will go through it line by line.
The poem was rumored to be found in Old St. Paul’s Church in Baltimore, Maryland, but this is not the case. In 1959, Reverend Frederick Kates (A godless episcopal “priest”) included the poem in a book of devotional materials. This poem and it’s substance is the same heresy that is spewed today in most all “christian churches”. It’s heretical, ecumenical, “feel good”, ear tickling, godless (Revelation 3:16) motivational speech that has nothing to do with God.
Desiderata means things that are desired or wanted. The implication is that these are desired qualities of the soul and of the heart (what can “god” do for me attitude).
GOD SAYS TO THOSE WHO FOLLOW THEIR HEART:
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
The poison in the fruit of this poem is “therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be.” The implication is whatever you want God to be for the sake of your own peace and happiness, then let that be a means whereby you attain peace and happiness. There is no need then to heed the Biblical revelation of God’s character and to comply with His requirements for man. If you don’t like that God destroyed the world by a flood, destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah by fire, raised up the Babylonians against Israel, condemned the gods of the nations as idols, or whatever else bothers you about the God of the Bible then just imagine another god and be at peace with this god which you’ve conceived. That’s easy enough.
No need to take up your cross daily and suffer for righteousness; no need to carry the reproach of Christ’s Word in the world’s eyes; no need to say that anything is absolutely right or wrong besides maybe those aggressive, vexatious people which the poem earlier said to avoid; no need to tremble at God’s Word and live like there is a Judgment Day for you and an eternity at stake for you based on whether you keep it; no inevitable conflict between serving God and mammon which you must constantly account for.
And then of course in your peace with your own conception of God you justify the idolaters who made the Golden Calf, the worshipers of Baal, Moloch, and Ashtaroth (the devil) which the God of the Bible wouldn’t tolerate, the Jezebels and Ahab’s who promoted the worship of these gods which the prophets of the Lord considered abominable; moreover you justify the Jewish leaders and the people who murdered Jesus Christ. They merely conceived of the Messiah differently and wanted the man who didn’t fit their own conception of the Messiah gone. They believed that doing so would make them happy and give them peace- yet their action only ended up proving that the true God has the final word and that all His enemies will be ashamed and confounded. (The destruction of Israel in AD 70, for example). Before I continue, some Biblical truths:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.” (Romans 1:16-23)

“Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not.Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.” (Isaiah 65:12-14)
NOW, LET’S DISSECT THIS LINE BY LINE:
I was chuckling to myself a bit after I read this. First, it sounds like something “preached” in “99%” of the “churches” on the Main Street’s and the back Roads of this country that has forsaken God (aka a Joel Osteen sermon). Surely this quote offends countless millions of godless, progressive liberals and even millions and millions of people who say they are Christian who have no clue who Christ Jesus truly is. I can hear them now:
“How dare you give me this judgemental, patriarchal, heresy”! Why would these fools say this? Because Max Ehrmann is insinuating that God is a MAN (a male)… This is one of the only things he said that is actually true in this Buddhist-like, “feel good”, ecumenical, motivational speech so to speak.
OK, now to finish going through this quote. I will be commenting in CAPS:
Desiderata (MEANS “THINGS DESIRED” / “things that are yearned for” IN LATIN)
“Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.”
OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT THIS MAN SAID GOD IS A MAN, THIS HAS TRUTH IN IT WITH A CAVEAT “IF IT BE POSSIBLE”. FOR EXAMPLE:
Romans 12:18 “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”
THE WORD OF GOD ALSO SAYS A TRUE CHILD OF GOD (JESUS) IS “HATED BY ALL (UNBELIEVING) MEN”
Matthew 10:22 “And YE SHALL BE HATED OF ALL MEN for my name’s sake: but he that ENDURETH TO THE END shall be SAVED.”
JESUS WAS ONE OF THE MOST HATED MEN TO EVER WALK THE EARTH:
Isaiah 53:2-3 “For he (JESUS) shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath NO FORM OR COMLINESS (NO MAGNIFICENCE NOR SPLENDOR),; and when we shall see him, THERE IS NOT BEAUTY THAT WE SHOULD DESIRE HIM. 3 He is DESPISED and REJECTED OF MEN; a MAN OF SORROWS, and ACQUAINTED WITH GRIEF: and we hid as it were our faces from him; HE WAS DESPISED, and we esteemed him not.”

THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE TRUE JOY IS TO SUBMIT YOUR LIFE (TO OBEY) JESUS. EVERYONE ELSE HAS A FALSE PEACE WHICH IS NO PEACE AT ALL. I LIVED MOST OF MY LIFE LIKE THAT DRINKING, DRUGGIN’, CHASING WOMEN, GAMBLING, ETC) TOLERANCE TO APPEASE THE WICKED FEELINGS OF OTHERS IS SINFUL TOO. A TRUE CHRISTIAN IS PROMISED DIVISION (INCLUDING AND ESPECIALLY FROM THEIR OWN FAMILY) AND HAS THIS COME TRUE IN MY LIFE. ALLELUIA.
JESUS SPEAKING:
Matthew 10:34-36 “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I CAME NOT TO SEND PEACE, BUT A SWORD (DIVISION). 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man’s foes(ENEMIES) shall be they OF HIS OWN HOUSEHOLD.”

WE ALWAYS HEAR THE TERM “YOUR TRUTH” / “MY TRUTH”, etc AND IT’S TRULY NUTS AND ILLOGICAL ON IT’S FACE. IF I HAVE A “TRUTH” AND YOU HAVE A “TRUTH” THEN THERE IS REALLY NO TRUTH IN THE SENSE OF ULTIMATE, ETERNAL TRUTH THAT HAS BEEN FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME. EVERYTHING IS THEN SUBJECTIVE WHICH LEADS TO DESTRUCTION AS WE ARE WITNESSING RIGHT NOW. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE TRUTH AND MAN NEEDS A BASIS FOR THAT TRUTH, ALL OTHERS ARE LIES. IF WE USE THE LOGIC IN THIS QUOTE, WE SURELY CAN’T DRAW THE LINE ANYWHERE AS TO OFFEND ANOTHERS “TRUTH”. THAT WOULD SURELY BE INTOLERANT, HATEFUL, ETC… EY? LET’S USE A REAL LIFE EXAMPLE…. ON THE FOREIGN MISSION FIELDS, WE HAVE TRIBES THAT BRUTALLY GANG RAPE VERY YOUNG GIRLS FOR STATUS AND TRADITION, FOR EXAMPLE. WE ALSO HAVE GRANDMOTHERS IN THEIR 50’S, 60’S, 70’S, 80’S AND ABOVE GETTING RAPED BY YOUNG MEN AS THEY THINK THIS RIDS THEMSELVES OF DEMONS… THIS IS THEIR “TRUTH”. DOES THAT MAKE IT RIGHT?? SHOULD WE REMAIN SILENT IN THE FACE OF THESE EVILS? WHO DRAWS THE LINE? THE CONCLUSION IS… GOD’S LAW FROM THE BEGINNING DOES AND ALL SIN, SMALL OR LARGE IS DAMNABLE… JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED ON EARTH AS IN HEAVEN.
THE REAL LAW OF GOD CONTAINS JUST PUNISHMENTS LIKE THIS:
Leviticus 20:13 “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”
KING DAVID KNEW AS HE CRIED OUT IN REPENTANCE AFTER COMMITTING HORRIBLE SINS AGAINST GOD (AND MAN):
Psalm 55:14-16 “We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company. 15 Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them. 16 As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.”
AS A REPENTANT MAN, KING DAVID WANTED TO GET REPROVED AND SMITTEN AS HE STROVE TO BE IN RIGHT STANDING WITH GOD:
Psalm 141:5 “Let the righteous SMITE me; it shall be a KINDNESS: and let him REPROVE ME; it shall be an EXCELLENT OIL, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.”
SMITE IS A POWERFUL WORD = H1986 hâlam [haw-lam’] A primitive root; to strike down; by implication to hammer, stamp, conquer, disband: – beat (down), break (down), overcome, smite (with the hammer).
Romans 6:20,22-23 “For when YE (TRUE CHRISTIANS – CHILDREN OF GOD) WERE THE SERVANTS OF SIN, ye were free from righteousness. 22 But now being made FREE FROM SIN, and become SERVANTS TO GOD, YE HAVE YOUR FRUIT UNTO HOLINESS (BIBLICAL PERFECTION), and THE END (IF YOU ENDURE) everlasting life. 23 For THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH(ETERNAL PUNISHMENT IN HELLFIRE); but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (TO THE FAITHFUL – THE OBEDIENT).”

THERE ARE SURELY HATEFUL, VEXATIOUS PEOPLE THAT SHOULD BE AVOIDED IN THIS WORLD FOR SURE, HOWEVER, AND FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN I PREACH ON THE STREETS OR SPEAK TO SINNERS IN PRIVATE AS I TRY TO GET THEM TO REPENT OF THEIR SINS AND FOLLOW THE ONE, TRUE GOD(JESUS), YOU BET IT LOOKS LIKE I BECOME AGGRESSIVE SOMETIMES, ESPECIALLY AT HARDHEARTED, REBELLIOUS SOULS. WOUNDS CAN;T GET HEALED WITHOUT “SALT”. THERE IS A RIGHTEOUS ANGER THAT A TRUE CHRISTIAN POSSESSES (SALT) THAT IS USED TO TRY TO HEAL A SINNER AND CALL THEM TO THE LIGHT. JESUS REBUKED WHOLE CITIES…. HE ALSO RIGHTEOUSLY TIPPED OVER TABLES AND THREW PEOPLE OUT OF THE HOLY TEMPLE THEY WERE DECIMATING AS THEY RIPPED PEOPLE AND GOD OFF SPIRITUALLY AND MONETARILY. WE NOW LIVE IN A HOMOSEXUAL LOVING, EFFEMINATE PROMOTING, SELF-CENTERED, RACIST (AGAINST WHITES PREDOMINANTLY) SOCIETY WHEN MEN ARE ACTING LIKE LITTLE SISSY GIRLS AND WOMAN ARE MEN (SOME TRYING TO BE LITERALLY WHICH WILL NEVER HAPPEN).

GOD SAYS “IF A MAN DOES NOT WORK HE DOES NOT EAT” BUT WHEN ONE WORKS, EATS, ETC IT MUST ALL BE DONE FOR THE GLORY OF GOD (JESUS). ALL OTHER WORK, GOOD DEEDS, ETC IS AS OF FILTHY RAGS.
THE UNCLEAN (SINNER’S) GOOD WORKS ARE AS FILTHY RAGS:
Isaiah 64:6 “But we (SINNERS) are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as FILTHY RAGS; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
UNFAITHFUL ISRAEL IS SPOKEN ABOUT HERE AKA BACKSLIDDEN “BELIEVERS”, AKA UNBELIEVERS. SO, ALL THE “GOOD WORKS” OF AN UNBELIEVER ARE AS FILTHY RAGS (MENSTRUAL RAGS IS THE REFERENCE GOD USES HERE).

TYPICAL RAH-RAH BUDDHIST/GANDHI/JOE OLSTEEN TYPE HYPE SPOKEN HERE. USELESS “FEEL GOOD” WORDS THAT TICKLE SOMEONE’S EARS AS THEY HEAD DIRECTLY TO AN ETERNAL HELL.

GOD (THE FATHER, SON/JESUS AND THE HOLY SPIRIT IS LOVE, THERE IS NO OTHER LOVE. ALL OTHER LOVE IS FAKE AND AS FILTHY RAGS).
“Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.”
UNRIGHTEOUS FEAR IS NOT OF GOD, BUT, ONE MUST FEAR (REVERE) THE ONE TRUE GOD AND NEVER FEAR ANYTHING OR ANYONE ELSE.

A BLASPHEMOUS STATEMENT FOR SURE. WE ARE NOT CHILDREN OF THE UNIVERSE. THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF CHILDREN IN THIS WORLD:
1) CHILDREN OF GOD (SO VERY FEW) WHO OBEY AND SERVE HIM DAY AND NIGHT
2) BASTARD HUMANS (CREATIONS) WHO LIVE FOR THEMSELVES AND DO THINGS THEIR WAY (MANY OF THESE BASTARDS SIT IN MILLIONS OF CHURCHES AROUND THE WORLD)

GOD Himself was sorry to make mankind. This was spoken near the beginning of creation about 6,000 years ago:
Genesis 6:6-8 “And it repented the LORD (HE WAS SORRY) that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”
ONLY 8 PEOPLE WERE SAVED WHEN GOD RIGHTEOUSLY FLOODED THE EARTH IN NOAH’S DAY:

THE BIBLE SPEAKS TO THE 2ND AND LAST COMING OF JESUS. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THIS WORLD TODAY. PEOPLE ARE “DOING THEIR OWN THING” AKA “LIVE AND LET LIVE” “EATING AND DRINKING AND ETC NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGING THE ONE TRUE GOD (JESUS):
Luke 17:26-30 “And as it was in the days of Noe (NOAH), so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and DESTROYED THEM ALL. 28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and DESTROYED THEM ALL. 30 EVEN THUS SHALL IT BE IN THE DAY WHEN THE SON OF MAN IS REVEALED (THE SECOND AND FINAL COMING).”

GOD CREATED THE WORLD IN 6 LITERAL DAYS. THIS IS BACKED UP BY SCIENCE 100% (TRUE SCIENTISTS WILL AGREE AND CAN PROVE THIS 100%). I HAVE A TON OF PROOF ON THIS IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VIEW IT FROM SCIENTISTS, PROFESSORS, ETC. THE UNIVERSE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT BUT SURELY IT’S UNFOLDING AS MAN AND HIS WICKEDNESS REAPS THE FRUIT OF THEIR LABOUR (UNGODLINESS).

John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
ANOTHER BLASPHEMOUS STATEMENT. THERE IS ONE AND ONLY ONE TRUE GOD AND ONLY ONE TRUTH.
“And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.”
1st Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
THE ONLY WAY TO GET TRUE PEACE IS TO WORSHIP AND SERVE THE PRINCE OF PEACE. ONE WILL NEVER IN A TRILLION YEARS TRULY BE AT PEACE IN THIS WORLD AND SURELY NOT THE NEXT WITHOUT JESUS.

OF COURSE SOUNDS GOOD ON THE SURFACE AND I USED TO EAT THIS FOOLISHNESS UP AS AN IGNORANT NON-BELIEVER FULL OF MY-SELF. A FLESHLY WISH THIS MAN IS PUSHING HERE. WHEN ONE IS SERVING THE ONE TRUE GOD, THEY HAVE CRUCIFIED ALL THEIR DREAMS, WANTS, ETC. I CAN’T TELL YOU HOW FREEING THAT IS, THERE ARE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT WHEN ONE BREAKS EVER PART OF THEIR BEING SO MUCH AS TO GIVE THEIR ALL TO THE GOD OF THE UNIVERSE.
I CAN’T DESCRIBE THE FEELING OF PEACE I HAVE INSIDE YET AT THE SAME TIME I GRIEVE FOR THIS WORLD WITH ALL MY HEART. MOST ALL PE0PLE CAST ME OFF AS CRAZY, ETC AND IF YOU DO TOO, ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT MY HANDS ARE CLEAN OF YOUR BLOOD AS I HAVE TOLD YOU THE TRUTH, IN LOVE.
Ezekiel 33:8-9 “When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; IF THOU DOST NOT SPEAK TO WARN THE WICKED FROM HIS WAY, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but HIS BLOOD I WILL REQUIRE FROM THINE HAND. 9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.”
