1st Thessalonians Chapter 1
Author: 1 Thessalonians 1:1 indicates that the Book of 1 Thessalonians was written by the apostle Paul, probably along with Silas and Timothy.
Date of Writing: The Book of 1 Thessalonians was written in approximately A.D. 50.
Purpose of Writing: In the church of Thessalonica, there were some misunderstandings about the return of Christ. Paul desired to clear them up in his letter. He also writes it as an instruction in holy, righteous living as all Christians must live.
1Th 1:1 “Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Thessalonians’ Faith and Example
1Th 1:2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;
1Th 1:3 Remembering without ceasing YOUR WORK OF FAITH, and LABOUR of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
1Th 1:4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election (FAITH) of God. ( “ELECTION” MEANING NOW THE GENTILES / A PEOPLE GROUP HAD A WAY TO SALVATION – IT ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT MEAN THAT GOD ELECTS INDIVIDUALS TO HEAVEN OR HELL” – A COMPLETE STUDY ON “ELECTION” IN IN OUR ROMANS 9 STUDY)
1Th 1:5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power (TO CONVERT THE SOUL), and IN THE HOLY SPIRIT, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
1Th 1:6 And YE BECAME FOLLOWERS OF US, AND OF THE LORD, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy SPIRIT:
1Th 1:7 So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
1Th 1:8 For from YOU SOUNDED OUT THE WORD of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, BUT ALSO IN EVERY PLACE your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. (THEY PREACHED THE GOSPEL TO “ALL” AS COMMANDED)
1Th 1:9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God FROM idols (UNDER OUR PREACHING) to serve the living and true God;
Romans 11:22 “Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which FELL, SEVERITY; but toward thee, goodness, IF THOU CONTINUE in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be CUT OFF.”
Rom 6:1-14 “What shall we say then? SHALL WE CONTINUE IN SIN, that GRACE may abound?
Rom 6:2 GOD FORBID. How shall we, that are DEAD TO SIN, live any longer therein? Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4-14 “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that LIKE AS CHRIST was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so WE SHOULD ALSO WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE. Rom 6:5 For IF we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, WE SHALL ALSO BE IN THE LIKENESS OF HIS RESURRECTION:Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that OUR OLD (SINFUL) MAN IS CRUCIFIED WITH HIM, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth (FROM HERE ON OUT) WE SHOULD NOT SERVE SIN. Rom 6:7 For he that is dead is FREED FROM SIN (AND IT’S GRASP). Rom 6:8 Now IF we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Rom 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. Rom 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Rom 6:11 Likewise reckon YE ALSO YOURSELVES TO BE DEAD INDEED UNTO SIN, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom 6:12 LET NO SIN THEREFORE REIGN IN YOUR MORTAL BODY, THAT YE SHALL OBEY IT IN THE LUSTS THEREOF. Rom 6:13 NEITHER YEILD YOUR MEMBERS AS INSTRUMENTS OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS UNTO SIN: but YIELD YOURSELVES UNTO GOD, as those that are alive from the dead, and YOUR MEMBERS AS INSTRUMENTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS unto God. Rom 6:14 For SIN SHALL HAVE NO DOMINION OVER YOU: for ye are not under the (MOSAIC) law, but under GRACE.”
1Th 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.”
1st Thessalonians Chapter 2
Paul’s Ministry to the Thessalonians
1Th 2:1 For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain: (NOT FRUITLESS)
1Th 2:2 But even after that we had SUFFERED before (WE CAME UNTO YOU), and were SHAMEFULLY ENTREATED, as ye know, at Philippi, we were BOLD in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God WITH MUCH CONTENTION.
Act 16:22 “And the multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates having torn their garments from them, were commanding to beat them with rods, Act 16:23 many blows also having laid upon them, they cast them to prison, having given charge to the jailor to keep them safely”
Matthew 10:22 “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but HE THAT ENDURETH TO THE END SHALL BE SAVED.”
1Th 2:3 For our exhortation (TO REPENT AND EMBRACE THE GOSPEL) was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: (LIKE THE “99%” OF THE “CHURCHES” OUT THERE THAT PREACH A DEAD, HELLBOUND “GOSPEL” THE ONE IS “SAVED IN SIN” WHERE JESUS CLEARLY STATES HE CAME TO SAVE FROM SIN)
Romans 6:20,22-23 “For when YE WERE (PAST TENSE) THE SERVANTS OF SIN, ye WERE free from righteousness. 22 BUT NOW being made FREE FROM SIN, and become SERVANTS TO GOD, YE HAVE YOUR FRUIT UNTO HOLINESS (BIBLICAL PERFECTION), and THE END (IF YOU ENDURE) everlasting life. 23 For THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (TO THE FAITHFUL – THE OBEDIENT).”
1Th 2:4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; NOT AS PLEASING MEN, but God, which TRIETH OUR HEARTS.
1Th 2:5 For neither at any time used we FLATTERING WORDS, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; GOD IS WITNESS:
1Th 2:6 NOR OF MEN SOUGHT WE GLORY, NEITHER OF YOU, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. (OH HOW THE FALSE “PASTOR’S” IN “995” OF THE “CHURCHES” USE FLATTERING WORDS, CARNAL GAMES, ETC AS TO ATTRACT THE HEATHEN, WHO STAY THAT WAY AND NEVER GET SAVED)
2nd Timothy 4:1-8 “I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts (SINS) shall they heap to themselves teachers(FALSE “MAIN ST PASTORS”), HAVING ITCHING EARS; 4 And they shall TURN AWAY THEIR EARS FROM THE TRUTH, and shall be TURNED INTO FABLES. 5 But watch thou in all things, ENDURE AFFLICTIONS, DO THE WORK of an evangelist, MAKE FOOL Proof of thy ministry. 6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I HAVE FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT, I HAVE FINISHED MY COURSE, I have KEPT THE FAITH: 8 Henceforth (NOW) there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGE, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. “
1Th 2:7 But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: (WE FED, COUNSELED, DISCIPLED YOU TO “WALK AS JESUS WALKED” 1ST JOHN 2:6)
1Th 2:8 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. (THE STRONGEST AFFECTION OF BRETHREN IN CHRIST. ARE WE NOT TO “LAY DOWN OUR LIVES FOR OUR BRETHREN?)
1Th 2:9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail (“24/7/365” LABOUR FOR CHRIST’S SAKE): for LABOURING DAY AND NIGHT, because we would not be chargeable (RELIANT) unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God. (SO MANY WOLVES IN THE PULPITS PREACH A EASY-GRACE FALSE GOSPEL TO CONTINUE TO GET $$$ WHILE THE HEARERS WILL END UP WITH THEM IN THE ETERNAL LAKE OF FIRE BECAUSE THEY ALL LOVE THE UN-CONVICTING MESSAGE THAT DOES NOT SAVE)
1Th 2:10 Ye are witnesses, and God also, how HOLILY and JUSTLY and UNBLAMEABLY we behaved ourselves among YOU THAT BELIEVE:
1Th 2:11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,
1Th 2:12 That ye would WALK WORTHY OF GOD (ACTION), who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
1Th 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which EFFECTUALLY WORKETH also in you that believe.
1Th 2:14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for YE ALSO HAVE SUFFERED like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:
1Th 2:15 WHO BOTH KILLED THE LORD JESUS, and their own prophets, and HAVE PERSECUTED US; and THEY PLEASE NOT GOD, and are contrary to all men:
1Th 2:16 Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for THE WRATH IS COME UPON THEM (SINNERS) to the uttermost.
John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not (MEANING DOES NOT OBEY – A SINNER) the Son shall not see life; but the WRATH (ANGER/CONDEMNATION) of God abideth on him.”
A TRUE CHRISTIAN IS HATED
Matthew 24:9-13 “Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, AND SHALL KILL YOU: and YOU SHALL BE HATED of all nations for MY name’s sake. 10 And then SHALL MANY BE OFFENDED (BY THE TRUTH), and shall betray one another, and SHALL HATE ONE ANOTHER. 11 And MANY FALSE PROPHETS SHALL (HAVE) ARISE, and shall DECEIVE MANY. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, THE LOVE OF MANY (HAS) SHALL WAX COLD. 13 But HE THAT SHALL ENDURETH UNTIL THE END (LIVING HOLY), the same shall be SAVED.”
Paul’s Longing to See Them Again
1Th 2:17 But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence (AS THE JEWS PERSECUTED THEM), not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire. (AS A PARENT LEADING HIS CHILDREN)
1Th 2:18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us. (SPIRITUAL BATTLES RAGE – 2Co 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.”
1Th 2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
1Th 2:20 For ye are our glory and joy.” (A GLORIOUS HEARTFELT REWARD FOR LEADING PEOPLE TO ETERNAL PARADISE)
1st Thessalonians Chapter 3
1Th 3:1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone; (PAUL WAS RIGHTEOUSLY ANXIOUS TO HEAR OF THE BRETHREN’S STATE)
1Th 3:2 And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
1Th 3:3 That no man should be moved by these afflictions (MOVED FROM THE FAITH – APOSTATIZE): for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.
1Th 3:4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that WE SHOULD SUFFER (AS ALL TRUE CHRISTIANS ENDURE); even as IT CAME TO PASS, and ye know.
1st Peter 4:12-17 “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the FIERY TRIAL WHICH IS TO TRY YOU, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But REJOICE, inasmuch as ye are PARTAKERS of Christ’s SUFFERINGS; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be GLAD also with EXCEEDING JOY. 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, HAPPY ARE YE; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part HE IS GLORIFIED. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL?”Acts 5:41 “And they departed from the presence of the council, REJOICING (NOT DEPRESSED) that they were counted worthy to SUFFER SHAME FOR HIS NAME.”
1Th 3:5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you (THROUGH PERSECUTIONS, ETC), and our labour be in vain. (CONTRARY TO THE BLASPHEMOUS TEACHINGS OF “ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED”, THE APOSTLE KNEW THAT ONE THAT WAS TRULY IN JESUS COULD LOST FAITH AND FALL FROMM GRACE)
2nd Thessalonians 2:3 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come A FALLING AWAY FIRST, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.”
AN IN DEPTH STUDY ON THE DAMNABLE HERESY OF OSAS (UNCONDITIONAL ETERNAL SECURITY)
Timothy’s Encouraging Report
1Th 3:6 But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
1Th 3:7 Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith: (ALL THE AFFLICTIONS OF A CHRISTIAN BY THE LOST WORLD ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO THE GLORIOUS NEWS THAT BRETHREN ARE ENDURING IN THE FAITH)
1Th 3:8 For now WE LIVE, IF WE STAND FAST IN THE LORD.
How can anybody deny the FALLING AWAY as if it isn’t mentioned in the Bible? It’s spelled out in Black and White! It’s in FULL SWING NOW and those who deny it may have already become a part of it.Matthew 24:10-11 “And then shall many BE OFFENDED (fall away), and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall DECEIVE MANY.”Matthew 24:24 “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”Matthew 11:6 “And blessed is he, whosoever shall not BE OFFENDED (fall away) in me.”1 Timothy 4:1 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall DEPART FROM THE FAITH, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared 2 with a hot iron.”2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a (((FALLING AWAY))) first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition”
1Th 3:9 For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
1Th 3:10 NIGHT AND DAY PRAYING EXCEEDINGLY that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith? (MIGHT SHARE WITH MORE TRUTH THAR GOD HAS REVEALED TO THEM ABOUT CHRIST AND HIS COMING KINGDOM)
1Th 3:11 Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
1Th 3:12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
1Th 3:13 To the end he may STABLISH YOUR HEARTS UNBLAMEABLE IN HOLINESS before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.”
1Pe 1:15-16 “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”Hebrews 5:9 “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation UNTO ALL THEM THAT OBEY HIM.”Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore PERFECT, even as your Father which is in heaven is PERFECT.”
John 14:15 “IF ye love me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.”
John 15:10 “IF YE KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.”
John 15:14 “Ye are my friends, IF YE DO WHATSOEVER I COMMAND YOU”
1st Thessalonians Chapter 4
A Life Pleasing to God
1Th 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and EXHORT YOU by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have RECEIVED of us HOW YE OUGHT TO WALK AND PLEASE GOD, so ye would abound more and more.
1st John 2:3-6 “And hereby we do know that WE KNOW HIM, IF WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. 4 He that saith, I know him, and KEEPETH NOT HIS COMMANDMENTS IS A LIAR, AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN HIM. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: HEREBY KNOW WE ARE IN HIM. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought HIMSELF ALSO SO TO WALK, even as HE (JESUS) walked.”
1Th 4:2 For ye know what COMMANDMENTS WE GAVE you by the Lord Jesus.
1Th 4:3 For THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD, EVEN YOUR SANCTIFICATION, that ye should abstain from fornication: (“GO AND SIN NO MORE”)
1st Peter 2:9-12 “But ye (BELIEVERS IN CHRIST) are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, AN HOLY NATION, a PECULIAR PEOPLE; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath CALLED YOU OUT OF DARKNESS into HIS marvellous light: 10 Which in time past (THE GENTILES OF MANY NATIONS) were not a people, but ARE NOW THE PEOPLE OF GOD: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 11 Dearly beloved (CHRISTIANS “NOT OF THIS WORLD”), I beseech you as strangers (FOREIGNERS) and pilgrims, ABSTAIN FROM FLESHLY LUSTS (SIN), which war against the soul; 12 Having your conversation (BEHAVIOR) honest (HOLY, RIGHTEOUS, HONORABLE) among the Gentiles (THE PAGANS YOU WALK ABOUT): that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may BY YOUR GOOD WORKS, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation (OF GOD’S GRACE) .”
1Th 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
1Th 4:5 NOT IN THE LUST of concupiscence (WORLDLY DESIRES, FEELINGS, ENTERTAINMENT OF THE WORLD), even as the Gentiles which know not God:
James 1:8 “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”James 4:4 “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the FRIENDSHIP OF THE WORLD IS ENMITY WITH GOD? whosoever therefore will be A FRIEND OF THE WORLD IS THE ENEMY OF GOD .”
1Th 4:6 That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
1Th 4:7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto HOLINESS.
Hebrews 12:14-17 “Follow peace with all men, AND HOLINESS, WITHOUT which NO MAN SHALL SEE THE LORD: 15 LOOKING DILIGENTLY LEST ANY MAN FAIL THE GRACE OF GOD (YES, ONE CAN LOSE THE GRACE OF GOD ONCE THEY HAD IT AND END UP IN HELLFIRE FOREVER); lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby MANY BE DEFILED; 16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. 17 For ye know how that afterward, when HE WOULD HAVE INHERITED THE BLESSING, he was rejected: for HE FOUND NO PLACE OF REPENTANCE, THOUGH HE SOUGHT IT CAREFULLY WITH TEARS.”
1Th 4:8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
1Th 4:9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
1Th 4:10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that YE INCREASE MORE AND MORE; (IN WISDOM, IN TRUE LOVE FOR THE BRETHREN AND THE LOST)
1Th 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; (A CHRISTIAN WORKS HARD NOT ONLY TO PROVIDE FOR HIS OWN, BUT THE DOWNTRODDEN)
2Th 3:10 “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.”
Luke 6:33 “And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.”
1Th 4:12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without (FAITH), and that ye may have lack of nothing. (BY WORKING HARD FOR YOUR DAILY BREAD)
The Coming of the Lord
1Th 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. (THERE WAS AS ERRONEOUS VIEW AMONG THE THESSALOINICA CHURCH REGARDING THE DEAD)
1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep (ENDURED ‘TIL THE END OF THEIR NATURAL LIFE ABIDING IN GOD) IN JESUS will God bring with him.
1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are ALIVE AND REMAIN (IN TRUE, OBEDIENT FAITH AS CHRIST PHYSICALLY RETURNS) unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. (THE DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL BE RAISED FIRST)
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and THE DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL RISE FIRST:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be CAUGHT UP TOGETHER with them in the clouds, TO MEET THE LORD IN THE AIR: and so shall we EVER BE WITH THE LORD.
1Th 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
1Pe 5:6-11 “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
1st Thessalonians Chapter 5
The Great Day of the Lord
Malachi 4:1-6 “For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. 3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. 4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. 5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”
1Th 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh AS A THIEF IN THE NIGHT. (THE DESTRUCTION AND THE FINAL JUDGMENT UPON KING JESUS’ RETURN)
1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then SUDDEN DESTRUCTION cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
1Th 5:4 But ye, brethren, ARE NOT IN DARKNESS, that that day should overtake you as a thief. (THOSE TRULY IN CHRIST ARE EXPECTING HIS RETURN)
1Th 5:5 Ye are all the children of light (TRUE OBEDIENT CHRISTIANS), and the CHILDREN OF THE DAY: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. (THIEVES COME AT NIGHT)
1Th 5:6 Therefore LET US NOT SLEEP (CONDITION), as do others; but LET US WATCH AND BE SOBER.
1Th 5:7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
1Th 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, BE SOBER (CONDITION), PUTTING ON (CONDITION) the breastplate of faith and love(CONDITION); and for an helmet (CONDITION), the hope of salvation.
1Th 5:9 For God hath not appointed us (TRUE CHRISTIANS) to wrath, but TO OBTAIN SALVATION by our Lord Jesus Christ,
Hebrews 5:9 “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation UNTO ALL THEM THAT OBEY HIM.”
1Th 5:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
1Th 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and EDIFY ONE ANOTHER, even as also ye do.
Final Instructions and Benedictio
1Th 5:12 And we beseech you, brethren, to KNOW THEN WHICH LABOUR AMONG YOU (PASTORS, EVANGELISTS, MISSIONARIES, OVERSEERS, ETC), and are OVER YOU IN THE LORD, AND ADMONISH YOU; (JUST IMAGINE THE OLYMPIAN THAT SPENDS DAY AND NIGHT FOR A GODLESS, FOOLISH PRIZE WHILE HIS COACH ADMONISHES HIM DAILY TO GET BETTER… NOW IMAGINE HOW MUSH YOU MUST STRIVE TO GET INTO HEAVEN AND OF COURSE WITH THE ADMONITION OF THE TEACHERS/OVERSEERS OF THE GOSPEL)
1st Corinthians 9:25-27 “And every man that STRIVETH (AGONIZES) for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain A CORRUPTIBLE CROWN; but we (TRUE CHRISTIANS) an INCORRUPTIBLE. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; SO FIGHT I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I KEEP UNDER MY BODY, and BRING IT INTO SUBJECTION: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a CASTAWAY.”
Luke 13:23-24 “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he (JESUS) said unto them, 24 Strive (AGONIZE) to enter in at the strait gate: for MANY, I say unto you, WILL SEEK (HEAVEN) to enter in, and SHALL NOT BE ABLE.”
1Th 5:13 And to esteem them (THE ELDERS) very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
1Th 5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, WARN THEM THAT ARE UNRULY, comfort the feebleminded, SUPPORT THE WEAK, be patient toward all men.
2nd Thessalonians 3:6-12 “Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye WITHDRAW YOURSELVES from every brother that walketh disorderly (THAT WILLFULLY SINS), and not after the tradition which he received of us. 7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; 8 Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: 9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us. 10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.”
HOW DOES A TRUE CHRISTIAN LOVE THEIR BROTHER?
Leviticus 19:17 “Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise REBUKE THY NEIGHBOUR, and NOT SUFFER SIN UPON HIM.”
Proverbs 27:5-6 “OPEN REBUKE is better than secret love. 6 FAITHFUL are the WOUNDS of a FRIEND; but the KISSES (WORLDLY LOVE) of an enemy are DECEITFUL.”
1 Timothy 5:20 “THEM THAT SIN REBUKE BEFORE ALL, THAT OTHERS MAY FEAR.”
1Th 5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever FOLLOW THAT WHICH IS GOOD (CONDITION), both among yourselves, and to all men.
1Th 5:16 Rejoice evermore.
1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1Th 5:19 Quench not the Spirit. (YOU CAN QUENCH THE SPIRIT AND LOST YOUR SALVATION)
1Th 5:20 Despise not prophesyings.
1Th 5:21 PROVE ALL THINGS; hold fast that which is good.
1Th 5:22 ABSTAIN FROM ALL APPEARANCE OF EVIL.
1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Th 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. (IT’S A MUST TO GO TO OUR PHILIPPIANS 1 STUDY TO UNDERSTAND THIS VERSE)
