The Agape Love Delusion (Short Version)
Many think that agape is a word in the Greek text of the New Testament to describe a special type of love that uniquely describes God’s love. However, that is a delusion. This delusion has been spread much since it is commonly taught in Bible colleges and seminaries.
By examining a basic Bible concordance, it can be known that agape isn’t a word to describe a love which pertains uniquely to God. Agape is actually used in the Bible to describe love which is sinful and love for sin itself. There are many examples of this. Here are just two places in the New Testament where the word for love in the Greek text is agapao- a form of the Greek word agape.
John 3:19: “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved (agapao) darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
The following verse ought to also shake the theology of those who exalt agape love.
1 John 2:15: “Love (agopao) not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love (agapao) the world, the love (agape) of the Father is not in him.”
Those who talk about how agape is the highest form of love which belongs uniquely to God are misrepresenting God’s love- and thereby misrepresenting Him.
Though God’s love is utterly pure and undefiled, it never could nor ever would be inconsistent with His love for truth and righteousness. His love is not an open door to justify wickedness nor valid grounds to believe that He will bail anyone out of condemnation in the end if they continue in sin. Yet the agape love delusion gives people an illogical and false basis to think such things. This whole false concept of agape being this special love that is unique to God is actually often branded as something illogical which we are told to accept.
It is reasonable to conclude that those who talk about agape being a love that is unique to God are dishonest and/or they are parroting what they hear others say without adequate caution (you only need a Bible concordance and basic literacy to know that agape is not referring to a love that is unique to God).
Let the unconditional love people whine over, and try to explain away, what is said of the Jews under God’s judgment in Jeremiah 16:5: “For thus saith the Lord, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the Lord, even lovingkindness and mercies.”
