Refuting GotQuestions.org on “Should Christians Support the Nation of Israel?”

Here we will analyze the Zionist Christian website Gotquestions.org’s article titled: “Should Christians support the nation of Israel?” without quoting from it directly (besides the final three sentences).  The things said here are responses to the ideas put forth in the article.

Contrary to what is commonly taught in mainstream evangelical Christianity (which Gotquestions.org fits right in with), Christians should definitely not support the nation of Israel.  Doing so is a betrayal of Jesus Christ and is enabling crime of the utmost severity.  

To use Deuteronomy 7:6-8 to justify supporting modern Israel is ludicrous.  This passage applies to ancient Israel before it brought forth the Messiah.  The oath to Israel’s fathers (Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) was kept by bringing forth Jesus Christ out of ancient Israel to bless all nations through.  Those of ancient Israel who were faithful received Jesus Christ (hence John the Baptist came to call Israel to repentance before the Messiah was revealed).  That remnant is at the roots of the faithful Christian church (which is the true Israel).  The Lord had no purpose for Israel afterwards but to make an example in His wrath of the unfaithful remnant of the nation.  He did this by destroying Israel and its Temple at the hands of the Romans in the latter first and second centuries AD.  Modern Jews can believe in Jesus Christ and be incorporated into the faithful remnant of Israel- yet the nation which is called Israel today is a counterfeit entity.

Christians do not owe any debt at all to modern Israel.  The lie that they do causes many to deny Christ by siding with His enemies in their unrighteous endeavor of theft from others in reclaiming the land which they were kicked out of long ago by the Lord’s own verdict.  The reality that salvation is of the Jews means greater trouble for Jews who reject Jesus as the Messiah and do not faithfully follow Him.  Jesus Christ is the salvation that is of the Jews.  Jews which do not serve Him oppose their own mercy and are a stumbling-block to the world- as are all professing Christians who do not really keep His Word.  

Yes, the Bible is a Jewish book and Jesus was a Jew according to the flesh.  What does that have to do with modern Israel which rejects Him?  You owe no debt to Benjamin Netanyahu anymore than you owe the evil Israelites in the Old Testament like Korah, Dathan, and Ahab or to enemies of Jesus in the New Testament like Annas, Caiphas, and Judas Iscariot.  Anyone being faithful to Jesus in Israel would also wish to restore the land the Jews stole to its previous owners- and they would leave Israel if necessary to help accomplish that.

Isaiah 27:6 says: “He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.”

Scriptures such as this are no justification for supporting modern Israel.  Isaiah 27:6 was fulfilled when Israel returned from captivity in Babylon and the Gospel of its Messiah was afterwards sent forth to the nations.  Any further fulfillment would be after Christ has returned.  Jews who reject Jesus Christ will be rooted out then.  The following was spoken by the Apostle Peter to Jews very shortly after Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Acts 3:19-26: “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.  And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.  For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.  And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.  Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.  Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.  Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”

The fruit which modern Israel fills the face of the world with is rotten- which is why supporting modern Israel is justifying sin.

The following rebuke was given to ancient Israel when its wickedness was multiplied and it could only be salvaged then by being sent into captivity in Babylon.  This rebuke was given through a faithful prophet which didn’t dare support Israel unconditionally.

Isaiah 59:1-16: “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.  For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.  None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.  They hatch cockatrice’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper.  Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.  Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.  The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.  Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.  We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noon day as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men.  We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.  For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them; In transgressing and lying against the Lord, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.  And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.  Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.  And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.”

This rebuke applies no less to modern Israel.  And you Zionist Christians dare support this nation which steals and murders with the full support of most of its population?  Anyone who really knows the Old Testament knows that the Lord sent a famine against Israel for unlawfully killing the Gibeonites (see 2 Samuel chapter 21).  Modern Israel has no right to take the land which they have taken and to kill the people whom they have killed.  They had no commission from the Lord to do any of that.  How can you believe otherwise without denying Jesus Christ?  You can’t.  The Zionist Jews who founded modern Israel rebel against the Messiah.  It is a pathetic disgrace.

Again, the remnant of the faithful of ancient Israel are now faithful Christians.  The faithful Christians are the true Israel (as Galatians 6:16 says directly so there is no doubt about that).  That group is the remnant according to the election of grace.  There is no other remnant- which is why both Jews and Gentiles need to believe in and obediently follow Israel’s Messiah Jesus in order to be in God’s grace.  You cannot logically say that Jews need to be saved by faith in Jesus Christ and then turn around and say we ought to support the entity which is called Israel which rejects Him.  You didn’t get such duplicity from the Bible. You got it (directly or indirectly) from the evil Scofield Reference Bible which, there is strong reason to believe, was basically a work supported by Zionist Jews in their attempts to destroy Christian resistance to their Zionist endeavor.

Genesis 12:1-3 doesn’t validate supporting modern Israel at all.  Since the blessing of Abraham is available to all families of the earth through Jesus Christ who is the promised seed of Abraham, how can supporting a nation which rejects and bitterly opposes Jesus be equivalent to blessing Abraham?  It cannot be (and go ask that question to the snakes quoting Genesis 12 while claiming you need to support modern Israel).  God’s blessing on Abraham is applicable to the chosen seed which was promised to come through Abraham.  This blessing also extends to all repentant believers who live under the authority of His Word.  

Galatians 3:27-29 (note that having been baptized into Christ means to have come under His authority- the thing which valid Christian baptism is supposed to signify and be a genuine extension of): “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.  And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Modern Israel has done the very thing which its advocates have falsely accused the nation of Israel’s critics of doing.  To bless the modern nation of modern Israel, which hates Jesus Christ and His people, is to curse Abraham in principle and bring the curse promised towards his enemies in Genesis chapter 12 upon yourself.  To put it simply, if you bless the enemies of Jesus Christ in their wickedness you are cursing Abraham.  This alone demonstrates why no one should dare support modern Israel.

So no, Jews are not the chosen people of God- except Jews which really receive and follow Jesus Christ.  Of the many examples from the Bible and history of the blatant enemies of the true God being destroyed, none are more striking than the Jewish nation’s destruction by the Romans.  Christians have no obligation whatsoever to support that unfaithful remnant of the Jewish people.  They actually have an obligation to stand against them when they are practicing sin- something which the modern Jewish nation’s very existence is built upon.  

The Bible never warned that there would be inevitable conflict between the descendants of Ishmael and the physical seed of Isaac either.  It only says of Ishmael in Genesis 16:12: “And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.”  

Even to apply this beyond Ishmael to his descendants does not justify the modern Jews in their dealings with the Arabs.  Not only are not all Arabs descendants of Ishmael, the Zionist Jews are the instigators who unrighteously raised their hand first in their conflict with the Arabs anyways.  To resort to what was said of Ishmael in Genesis to make it sound like conflict between Jews and Arabs is just inevitable is foolish- while to justify the Jews in a conflict which they instigated is just plain evil.  

You cannot support the modern nation of Israel without also justifying the nation’s unrighteous actions.  Without unrighteous actions, modern Israel simply wouldn’t exist.  Even the Zionist stronghold which is the Balfour Declaration contains this qualifying line regarding the British Government’s support of a homeland for the Jews in Palestine “it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine.”  Seeing that modern Israel never existed at all without violating at least the civil property rights of non-Jewish communities in Palestine, Israel has no valid basis to exist now anyways.  

The Gotquestions.org article concludes with these three sentences.  

“God will fulfill His promises and covenants with Israel.”

Response: His promises and covenants with Israel are in Jesus Christ.  Get on His side or you’re alienated from Him.  There is not some separate kingdom coming for Christ-rejecting Jews like the crazy Dispensationalists teach.  This has been proven by Acts 3:19-26.  Modern Israel wasn’t begotten through faith in the true God’s promises by people who were trusting His Word and adhering to any covenant set forth by Him.  Zionist Jews heed not Moses.  If they did, they would have believed Jesus (Jesus said this directly in John chapter 5).  They have nowhere else to run in refusing to have Him to reign over them.  Why would anyone think that an entity which was begotten in refusal to put the flesh to death (since there was so much sin even in the founding of modern Israel) would be fit to inherit God’s promises- unless they were avoiding death to their own carnality and vainly hoping for a blessed resurrection anyways themselves?  It makes sense that vain Christianity which falsely promises people resurrection life with Christ without demanding the embrace of death with Christ to sin and self would support an entity which vainly calls itself Israel that seeks the same thing in principle. 

“God still has a plan for Israel.”

Response: This is silly, vague talk.  He appointed Israel as a nation to be destroyed long ago through the Romans and He saw to it that this was accomplished.  Is Jesus going to share His coming kingdom with the fake messiah whom modern Israel is expecting?  Is He going to come and aid Benjamin Netanyahu in all of his goals as Netanyahu rejects Him and seeks to eliminate the people who have a lawful claim to live in the land which his people unlawfully took?  

“Woe to anyone who seeks to defeat that plan; “whoever curses you I will curse” (Genesis 12:3).”

Response: What exactly is that plan?  They don’t say.  Is Gotquestions looking for another messiah like modern Israel is?  Is not the plan of the true God provision of redemption from sin in ancient Israel’s Messiah and the coming establishment of His everlasting kingdom?  His faithful people will reign with Him in that kingdom and His enemies will be rooted out from it.  Modern Israel is actually cursed for being a counterfeit entity to God’s true people, the relatively few in the world who are faithful believers in Jesus, while those who support modern Israel are complicit with its deceit and manifold sins which have piled up to the heavens.

2 Timothy 2:19: “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his.  And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

Support for modern Israel is inseparable from Zionism.  Zionism is iniquity/unrighteousness.  Any love for any group or individual which enables the object of that love to trample on the rights of others isn’t godly love.  It is rather downright sinful.
