Read the KJV but Reject Extreme KJV Only-ism (Ruckmanism)

Extreme KJV-Only-Ism can also be called Ruckmanism since it was popularized by Peter Ruckman (who lived from 1921 to 2016).  Extreme KJV Only-ism is marked by the belief that the King James Version of the Bible is better than the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts from which the King James Version was translated from.  Those who follow Ruckman teach then that it is never right to reference Hebrew and Greek manuscripts when trying to understand any Biblical text; and they teach that the translators of the King James Version could never have used a better word in any place.

Besides his own attachment and enslavement to sin which were evident in his character and personal life, Peter Ruckman should also not be regarded as any spiritual authority since his own doctrine was blatantly false in relation to even the most foundational matters of Christianity.

Ruckman’s theology was Dispensationalism (which we’ve dealt with extensively in several of our other studies).  Key elements of this are separating Christianity from its foundational concepts and illustrations in the Old Testament, a lawless gospel where subjection to moral law isn’t necessary for saving faith in Christ (basically, it’s teaching a license to live in sin) along with the easy-believe-ism and unconditional eternal security concepts which accompany that.  Dispensationalism also features the insane belief that God has a separate covenant with Jews who reject Christ; and the accompanying concept of reconciling Zionism with Christianity.  And pre-tribulation rapture belief also stems from Dispensational theology.

Ruckman was so blatant in his concepts of easy-believe-ism and unconditional eternal security he taught that after someone has said the prayer “to trust Jesus for salvation”, they could not fail to go to heaven even if afterwards they did everything in their power to go to hell.

The burden of proof is on the one making claims such as those Ruckman made concerning the King James Bible.  Ruckman did not adequately prove his claims to be true.  The translators of the King James Version never even claimed to be inspired by God in doing their translation of the Bible.  We can indeed gain better Biblical insight regarding many passages by consulting the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts.  Doing this also proves that there were obviously several occasions in which the KJV translators could have used more accurate words and phrases.

Ruckman’s outrageous claims are all the more dangerous because the King James Version of the Bible is probably still, to this very day, the best English translation of the Bible available.

The corruption of many Bible versions is so potentially dangerous precisely because they water down key Bible doctrines, misrepresent God’s holy character, and help people to think they are secure from God’s wrath while they live in sin.  Yet these are all things which the extreme KJV-Only people do anyways by their doctrines derived from Dispensational Theology (I’ve never known of even one extreme KJV-Only teacher who was not also significantly tainted by Dispensational Theology).

The extreme KJV-Only people twist and ignore so much from the King James Version itself that they don’t even need a corrupted Bible version to deceive and be deceived.
