Confronting the Illogical Madness of Christian Support for Israel

You were taught that any nation which opposes Israel is wicked for that very reason.  You were taught that Jewish lives matter more than other lives.  You were taught that the intervention of the US military in Israel’s conflicts is one of the best uses of America’s resources and a sure way for it to obtain God’s blessing.

Though those statements don’t apply to everyone, they apply to many.

And these illogical, lunatic concepts are only more mad when those who were taught these concepts most likely learned them, of all places, at a place which calls itself a Christian church.  They essentially taught you that you are siding with Jesus by siding with a nation founded and ruled by Jews who reject Him.

This message will review why support for Israel in the name of Christ is illogical madness.

First of all, a clarification concerning the frequent use of the word Zionism.

Though Jewish supremacy, unrighteous Jewish power, and illogical Christian support for Jews are not limited to support of the modern nation of Israel, the word Zionism is fitting to use in speaking of these topics since Zionism is indeed a key expression of Jewish supremacy and of unrighteous Jewish power.

The concept of Zionism is also commonly resorted to (whether the actual term is used or not) in the justifications which people make for the modern nation of Israel- whether the one advancing the concept is a religious Jew, a professing Christian, or neither of these.  Though the arguments which people use to advance Zionism are often religious in nature (and often stem from twisting passages in the Bible), there are also secular arguments which people use for Zionism.

Regardless of the basis which one uses in contending for Zionism, the Bible repeatedly references the concept of Zionism.  The Bible also confronts common lies which are used to justify it and overall rebukes it as evil.  You would never know this by attending a typical evangelical church, yet it is as clear as day.

Refuting Zionism Biblically is refuting the key basis which professing Christians typically have for their strong support of modern Israel and for proving that their partiality towards Jews has no righteous basis.

We see in the Bible how the Lord rebuked the Zionist Jews who thought they had a right to the land just because they were Abraham’s physical seed.

Ezekiel 33:24-26: “Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance. Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?  Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbor’s wife: and shall ye possess the land?”

In spite of such rebuke, it is common for church leaders to teach their congregations that the disobedient Jews have an unconditional birthright  to dwell in the land.  This teaching is the essence of Zionism.

What do Korah, Dathan, Abiram, Achan the son of Carmi, Abimelech the son of Gideon, the sons of Eli the priest, Absalom the son of David, Jeroboam the son of Nebat, Ahab the husband of Jezebel, the elders of Israel who opposed Jeremiah the prophet, and the leaders of Israel who delivered Jesus to be crucified all have in common?  Many of them died in special acts of God’s vengeance.  They were all certainly especially wicked in God’s sight.   They were also all natural Israelites.

The seed of the women, the Messiah who was promised to crush the serpent’s head and offer redemption to mankind has come forth through the ancient nation of Israel; not the modern one.  The foundations of the Messiah’s people are those of ancient Israel who received Him and followed Him faithfully.  The nation of Israel itself rejected its Messiah.  The nation was destroyed by the Romans after the Messiah came (the leadership and the majority of the nation rejected Him).  The Jews themselves were divided regarding the reception of Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah (or Christ, meaning the Lord’s anointed- and even though a Jew is technically a descendant of the tribe of Judah; it had come to be a reference to all natural Israelites by Jesus’ time- even well before that really).

Belief in Zionism under a Christian label practically teaches that God changed His mind about the Jewish nation after He rejected it in AD 70 by causing the Second Jewish Temple to be destroyed then.  This judgment in AD 70 had been foreshadowed upon the Jewish nation through the destruction of the First Temple by the Babylonians centuries earlier.  The nation of Israel was warned of being smitten with a curse in the final verses of the Book of Malachi as the Old Testament closes.  That warning was echoed by John the Baptist, Jesus, and Jesus’ Apostles.

Luke 19:41-44: “And when he (Jesus, very shortly before He was crucified) was come near, he beheld the city (Jerusalem), and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace!  but now they are hid from thine eyes.  For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.”

Matthew 23:33-39: “Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?  Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.  Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.  O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!  Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.  For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.”

There is a huge and irrational disconnect in the mind of the Christian Zionist from the evil Jews in the Bible, the Jewish nation’s rejection of Jesus Christ, and the monumental decisive judgment by God upon the Jews in AD 70.  This disconnect is illogical madness, yet its reality is evident from the massive support of modern Israel under a Christian label and the prevalent strange belief that natural Jews who do not worship Jesus Christ in spirit and truth are God’s chosen people.

To call the Jews God’s chosen people still, and to pray for the peace of Jerusalem now, as if it is God’s city now like it was when the Temple stood there, is not heeding the precedent hammered down by God in AD 70.

Without such disregard among the Jews for God’s own precedent which He hammered down in AD 70, there would be no modern Zionist movement.

The mass support for the modern Zionist movement under a Christian label demonstrates the same disregard among churches and among professing Christians in general for God’s verdicts and judgments which are within the Bible and/or alluded to within the Bible.

To go against the verdict of AD 70 is like contending against God’s verdict that Cain be banned from the presence of the Lord and sent to dwell in the Land of Nod as a fugitive and a vagabond for his murder of Abel.  It is also like going against the verdict set down through Joshua concerning the curse involved in rebuilding Jericho after Israel (when it was following the Lord) conquered Jericho and destroyed it.

Christian resistance to Zionism seems strange to many due to the publication of the Scofield Reference Bible in the early 20th century and the vast influence which it quickly obtained.  The Scofield Reference Bible taught the lie that natural Jews are God’s chosen people and taught that God has unconditionally granted them the land.  This caused an overwhelming shift in attitude towards Zionism in the visible churches right about the time the international bankers regained their stronghold on America through the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and right as the Zionist movement was really gaining steam.

Supporting Israel is essentially a statement that time itself takes away sin.  It is basically implicitly saying that God will overlook a person’s sins eventually- even if they continue in them and don’t repent.  How else could you support Israel now while confessing the destruction of the Jewish nation and the scattering of the Jews centuries ago was God’s judgment upon them (and if you don’t believe that, you might as well just admit you don’t believe anything in the Bible at all)?

Supporting modern Israel is like saying to the Jews: “Oh, it’s okay now.  Your ancestors dealt treacherously against God and crucified their Messiah.  And no, you haven’t learned your lesson, you’re not sorry, you continue to practice manifold sins, and you’d crucify your Messiah in a heartbeat again if you could.   But just come on back anyways.  And while you’re at it, just trample on the rights of those Arabs standing in your way who have lawfully acquired land that you want.  Don’t mind them.  They don’t matter.”

God Himself saw to it that the Jews were driven out of the land.  Imagine the prodigal son going back to his father’s house acting like he had never really done much wrong and acting like he was just entitled to come back whenever he wanted (only in the Jews’ case it is worse because they were driven out of the land by God’s judgment; the prodigal son left his father’s house willingly).

One has to wonder how the Jews could not fear God to the point where they would actually displace people from land which they had lawfully inhabited and owned property on.  The Scriptures which the Jews claim to believe give many warnings about theft and about overall trampling on the rights of others (actually, many now don’t even claim to believe them- yet they are true nevertheless).

Lamentations 3:35-36: “To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High, To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.”

Jeremiah 22:13: “Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbor’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work.”

Those who do so much as justify and/or support Zionism and modern Israel better beware.

Psalm 50:16-18: “But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?  Seeing thou hatest instruction, and casteth my words behind thee.  When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.”

From the very time that Israel was on the verge of entering Canaan, God drove the point home to Joshua (Israel’s leader after Moses had died) that He was not going to show Israel special favor nor give them Canaan just because they are natural descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Joshua 5:13-15: “And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?  And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come.  And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?  And the captain of the Lord’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy.  And Joshua did so.”

It is evident who this was that was speaking to Joshua.  It is similar to how God appeared to Moses at the burning bush.

God had already warned the following in the Law of Moses.

Leviticus 18:24-30: “Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.  Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;) That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.  For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.  Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the Lord your God.”

Leviticus 20:22-23: “Ye shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: that the land, whither I bring you to dwell therein, spue you not out.  And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.”

Deuteronomy 30:15-20: “See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.  But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.  I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

Look at how Joshua then faithfully reiterated this lesson to Israel shortly before his death (in Joshua chapters 23 and 24).  Joshua indeed included the land as something which would be taken from the Israelites if they were not obedient to God to yield the fruit of righteousness which He set them apart as a people to obtain from them.

Reading from Joshua 23:14-16: “And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.  Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the Lord your God promised you; so shall the Lord bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the Lord your God hath given you.  When ye have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.”

However proponents of Zionism try to justify it, those who oppose Zionism have God’s own words (like the formerly quoted Scriptures and several other Scriptures) in which God expressly says that the Jews have not received the land unconditionally.  And because of that, they are now illegal invaders in the land.  They are really no better, and are overall a lot worse, than the illegal invaders in the United States (who are also wicked and need to repent; and no one can be a faithful Christian while justifying them either and/or being in fellowship with those who justify them).

With a resounding no then, 1948 was not like Israel’s initial conquest of Canaan.  God did not deputize these Zionists like He deputized Israel under Joshua.  And even then, the Israelites spared those Canaanites who had separated from the evil of the Canaanites.  The Jews in 1948 took no care to spare the Arabs they conquered, no matter how righteous they might have been.  You just have to read about the leaders of the Zionists in 1948 to see that they were actually like the Canaanites whom God used Joshua and Israel to destroy in ancient times.  Murderers, thieves, terrorists, extortioners, manipulators, etc. who had no fear of God (and some of them eventually became high ranking politicians of Israel too).

The Zionists who have taken over Israel are Korahs, Dathans, Abirams, Caiphases, Judases, etc.  Jesus Christ was no more welcome among them in 1948, and is no more welcome in Israel now, than He and His faithful servants were in Biblical times (I dare say He is even less welcome now than in Biblical times).  Modern Israel is one of the most openly Christ hating countries on earth to this day in terms of its government and its overall spirit.   Israel in its rejection of Jesus is called Sodom and Egypt spiritually in Revelation 11:8.  It is possible that the only reason Christ’s Gospel is not officially banned there is that Israel’s government wants to put on a good face for its financial backers.

Even when Israel was God’s set apart nation where His appointed worship was centered, even then, one sure mark of a false prophet was unconditional support for Israel.  We see in 1 Kings chapter 22 how the one faithful prophet brought before King Ahab (Micaiah) said that Israel would not prosper in battle against the Syrians; while the multitude of false prophets told Ahab to go to battle against the Syrians with a guarantee of victory.  Micaiah was the one faithful man out of a vast multitude here.

Micaiah was the one not standing with Israel unconditionally; he was the anti-Zionist.  The false prophets spoke in agreement with the Zionists who claim that God is with Israel unconditionally.

Ahab died during Israel’s defeat at that battle which every prophet brought before him, besides the anti-Zionist Micaiah, told him he would prosper at.

There is also a lesson in the same battle related to Jehoshaphat King of Judah who justified King Ahab and sought to help him.  Ahab set up Jehoshaphat at the battle and left him in prime position to die there.  You professing Christians who support modern Israel and treat the Jews as if they are God’s people should not be the slightest bit surprised to learn that they are seeking to harm you.  They would even openly turn on you if they were to see it as advantageous to themselves to do so.

Also note along these lines what happened to Jehoshaphat after that disastrous battle.

2 Chronicles 19:1-2: “And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.  And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord?  therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord.”

There are a multitude of examples from both the Old Testament and the New Testament (as they are in perfect agreement) that the faithful servants of God did not stand with Israel unconditionally but rather called out Israel for its manifold sins and warned Israel of God’s judgment upon if it continued without repentance and doing works fitting for repentance.  I think that quite possibly everyone on Christian television and almost everyone on Christian radio praises Israel.  A sure way to discern a false prophet at any time is praising anyone who is wicked in God’s eyes by claiming that they are in His favor.
