Colossians Chapter 1
Author: The apostle Paul wrote the majority of the Book of Colossians (Colossians 1:1). Timothy is also given some credit (Colossians 1:1).
Date of Writing: The Book of Colossians was written approx between A.D. 58-62.
Purpose of Writing: The first half of the Book of Colossians is a theological composition that includes one of the most profound presentations of Jesus Christ’s humanity and divinity, and the relation between these two natures; and the role he plays in salvation in. The second half is an ethics course addressing every area of Christian life from the individual to the home and family, from work to the way we should treat others. The theme of this book is the Lordship of Jesus Christ and His sufficiency in meeting our needs in every area as long as we, Christians, abide.
Greeting
Col 1:1 “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,
Col 1:2 To the SAINTS (MORALLY PURE) and FAITHFUL BRETHREN in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thanksgiving and Prayer
Col 1:3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
Col 1:4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,
Col 1:5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
Col 1:6 Which is come unto you (NO LONGER CONFINED TO THE JEWS), as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit (CONVERTS THAT LIVE RIGHTEOUSLY PROVEN BY THEIR “FRUIT” AKA WORKS), as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the GRACE OF GOD in truth:
(Titus 2:11-12 “For the GRACE OF GOD that bringeth salvation hath APPEARED TO ALL MEN,12 Teaching us that, DENYING UNGODLINESS and WORLDLY LUSTS (SIN), we should live SOBERLY, RIGHTEOUSLY, and GODLY, IN THIS PRESENT WORLD”)
Col 1:7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a FAITHFUL minister of Christ;
Col 1:8 Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.
Col 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, DO NOT CEASE TO PRAY FOR YOU, and to desire that ye MIGHT BE FILLED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL IN ALL WISDOM AND SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING;
(Ephesians 5:17 “Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”)
Col 1:10 That YE MIGHT WALK WORTHY OF THE LORD unto all pleasing, BEING FRUITFUL IN EVERY GOOD WORK, and INCREASING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LORD;
Col 1:11 STRENGTHENED with ALL MIGHT (TO BE STEADFAST IN ALL TRIALS A TRUE CHRISTIAN MUST ENDURE), according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering WITH JOYFULNESS;
(Eph 3:13 “Wherefore I desire that YE FAINT NOT at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.) (PAUL WAS A PRISONER IN ROME AT THE TIME)
(Matthew 24:9-13 “Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, AND SHALL KILL YOU: and YOU SHALL BE HATED of all nations for MY name’s sake. 10 And then SHALL MANY BE OFFENDED (BY THE TRUTH), and shall betray one another, and SHALL HATE ONE ANOTHER. 11 And MANY FALSE PROPHETS SHALL (HAVE) ARISE, and shall DECEIVE MANY. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, THE LOVE OF MANY (HAS) SHALL WAX COLD. 13 But HE THAT SHALL ENDURETH UNTIL THE END (LIVING HOLY), the same shall be SAVED.”)
Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the SAINTS in LIGHT:
(1st John 1:5-7 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness (IN WILLFUL SIN), we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. “)
Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
(Romans 13:12-14 “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: LET US therefore CAST OFF THE WORKS OF DARKNESS (SIN), and let us PUT ON THE ARMOUR OF LIGHT. 13 LET US WALK HONESTLY (1ST JOHN 2:6), as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But PUT YE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”(“GO AND SIN NO MORE LEST A WORSE THING COME UPON THEE” JOHN 5:14).
Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
The Preeminence of Christ
Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Col 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Col 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind BY WICKED WORKS, yet now hath he reconciled
(YOU WERE ONCE ENEMIES OF THE CROSS – WILLFUL SINSERS ARE IN DARKNES. HOW DOES ONE KNOW GOD? BECOME RECONCILED TO JESUS).
1st John 2:3-6 “And hereby we do know that WE KNOW HIM, IF WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. 4 He that saith, I know him, and KEEPETH NOT HIS COMMANDMENTS IS A LIAR, AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN HIM. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: HEREBY KNOW WE ARE IN HIM. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought HIMSELF ALSO SO TO WALK, even as HE (JESUS) walked.”
1st Peter 4:16-19 “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the RIGHTEOUS SCARCELY BE SAVED, WHERE SHALL THE UNGODLY AND SINNER APPEAR? 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.”
Col 1:22 In the body of his flesh through death (SAVES FROM NOT IN SIN), to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Col 1:23 IF YE CONTINUE IN THE FAITH grounded and settled, AND BE NOT MOVED AWAY from the HOPE of the GOSPEL, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
(Revelation 22:18-19 “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall ADD unto these things, God shall add unto him the PLAGUES that are written in this BOOK: 19 And if any man shall TAKE AWAY from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall TAKE AWAY HIS PART OUT OF THE BOOK OF LIFE, AND OUT OF THE HOLY CITY, and from the things which are written in this BOOK.”)
Paul’s Ministry to the Church
Col 1:24 Who now REJOICE IN MY SUFFERINGS for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church: (THE JEWS HATED THE FACT THAT THE GENTILES WERE NOW RECEIVING THE GOSPEL).
(1Pe 3:16-17 “Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. 17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.”)
(Acts 5:41 “And they departed from the presence of the council, REJOICING (NOT DEPRESSED) that they were counted worthy to SUFFER SHAME FOR HIS NAME.”)
(2nd Timothy 2:12 “IF WE SUFFER, we shall also reign with him: IF WE DENY HIM, HE ALSO WILL DENY US. 13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.” YOU WILL BE JUDGED BY YOUR ACTIONS!)
Col 1:25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
Col 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Col 1:28 Whom we preach, WARNING EVERY MAN, and teaching every man in all wisdom; THAT WE MAY PRESENT EVERY MAN PERFECT in Christ Jesus:
Col 1:29 Whereunto I also labour, STRIVING (AGNOZING) according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.”
Colossians Chapter 2
Col 2:1 “For I would that ye knew what great conflict (CARE,DESIRE PRAYER) I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; (Paul had never been at either Colosse or Laodicea)
Col 2:2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; (THE VISIBLE CHURCH CANNOT BE IN UNION WITH GOD LEST IT’S IN UNION HERE ON EARTH ITSELF. THIS AND OTHER VERSES LIKE (GALATIANS 1:8-9) DISCOUNTS ALL THE DENOMINATIONS AND MOST ALL THE “NON-DENOMINATIONAL” LUKEWARM SEEKER SENSITIVE ABOMINATIONS).
Col 2:3 In whom (CHRIST) are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Col 2:4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. (LEAD YOU AWAY FROM TRUE FAITH. 2ND PETER CHAPTER 2, JUDE ARE 2 CHAPTERS THAT WARN ABOUT THE “THIEF” (FALSE PASTOR) THAT CAME TO “STEAL, KILL AND DESTROY).
Col 2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. (EVEN NOT THERE IN PERSON, HE WAS CONFIDENT THEY WERE WALKING IN THE STATUTES OF CHRIST IN HOLINESS AND RIGHTEOUSNESS DOING THE WORK OF THE LORD)
Alive in Christ
Col 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so WALK YE IN HIM: (DO NOT PERMIT YOURSELVES TO BE TURNED ASIDE BY THE JUDIAZING OR OTHER FALSE ANTICHRIST TEACHERS).
1st John 1:7 “But IF WE WALK IN THE LIGHT, as HE is in the light, (THEN) we have fellowship one with another, and (THEN) the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
1st John 2:6 “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as HE walked.” (YES, THAT SAYS A TRUE CHRISTIAN “WALKS AS JESUS WALKED)
John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: HE THAT FOLLOWETH ME (CONSTANT ACTION) shall not walk in darkness (SHALL NOT WILLFULLY SIN) , but shall have the light of life.”
Col 2:7 ROOTED and BUILD UP IN HIM, and STABLISHED IN THE FAITH, as ye have been taught, ABOUNDING therein with thanksgiving.
Col 2:8 BEWARE lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
(John 10:10 “The thief (THE FALSE PASTOR/TEACHER) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I (JESUS) am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”)
(James 5:19-20 “BRETHREN, if any of you do ERR from the truth (ERR FROM JESUS & GO BACK TO SIN), and one CONVERT HIM (BACK AGAIN TO HOLINESS); 20 Let him know, that he which CONVERETH THE SINNER from the error of his way (FROM SIN) shall SAVE A SOUL FROM DEATH (ETERNAL), and shall hide a multitude of sins.” (IF THE PERSON IS TRULY REPENTANT IN GODLY SORROW CONFESSING AND FORSAKING THE WRETCHED TRANSGRESSION, THEN THE PAST SINS ARE FORGIVEN).
Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Col 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, IN PUTTING OFF THE BODY OF SINS (“SIN NO MORE”) of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Col 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
(WHAT SAVE NOAH… OBEDIENCE…WATER IT AND OF ITSELF SELF DID NOT SAVE NOAH BUT TRUE FAITH AND OBEDIENCE DID AS HE OBEYED GOD IN RIGHTEOUSNESS.)
(Gen 6:9 “These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”)
Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, (NOT HAVING CRUCIFIED THE FLESH) hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; (NOW THAT YOU ARE WALKING IN HIS STATUTES JESUS CLEANSES FROM PAST SINS).
(Romans 3:25 “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his(JESUS’) blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of SINS THAT ARE PAST, through the forbearance of God”
YOU ARE PURGED FROM OLD SINS…THE LUKEWARM SAYS “BUT I AM COVERED FROM ALL SINS PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE, RIGHT?
2nd Peter 1:9 “But he that LACKETH these things is BLIND, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was PURGED FROM HIS OLD SINS.”Luke 14:33 “So likewise, whosoever he be of you that FORSAKETH NOT ALL THAT HE HATH, he CANNOT BE MY DISCIPLE.”FORSAKE YOUR WAYS AND THOUGHTS AND TRULY LIVE A SUFFERING, SACRIFICIAL, PERSECUTED LIFE AS TRUE DISCIPLES DOIsaiah 55:6-7 “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7 Let the wicked (SINNER) FORSAKE HIS WAY (CRUCIFY HIS FLESH), and the unrighteous man (SINNER) his thoughts: and let him RETURN unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 FOR MY THOUGHTS ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS, NEITHER YOUR WAYS MY WAYS, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are MY WAYS ARE HIGHER THAN YOUR WAYS, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”)
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Let No One Disqualify You
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: (YET ANOTHER REBUKE TO THE JUDIAZERS THAT SAY YOU MUST KEEP THE MOSAIC LAW)
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. (THEY WERE ONLY A DIM OUTLINE OF FUTURE THINGS)
Col 2:18 Let no man beguile you of your reward (DEFRAUD YOU OF YOUR PRIZE) in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels (ANOTHER REFERENCE TO FALSE TEACHERS SUBVERTING THE HEARER AWAY FROM TRUE FAITH), intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
Jas 1:12 “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”
Col 2:19 And not holding the Head (NOT HOLDING TO TRUE DOCTRINE), from which all the body (Eph 4:16) by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
(Hebrews 10:23-27 “LET US HOLD FAST the profession of our faith WITHOUT WAVERING; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to PROVOKE UNTO LOVE AND TO GOOD WORKS: 25 NOT FORSAKING THE ASSEMBLING OF OURSELVES TOGETHER, as the manner of some is; but EXHORTING ONE ANOTHER: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.”)
Col 2:20 Wherefore IF YE BE DEAD WITH CHRIST (SO AS TO BE FREED FROM) from the rudiments of the world (HAVING ABOLISHED THE CAUSE OF ENMITY BETWEEN THE JEWS AND GENTILES) , why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances (THE CEREMONIAL LAW IS FULFILLED),
Col 2:21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; (ANY FORBIDDEN MEAT)
Col 2:22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? (ALL RITES AND CEREMONIES OF THE JEWISH RELIGION NOW PERISH)
Col 2:23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship (VOLUNTARY), and humility (FOR DIVINE THINGS), and neglecting of the body (NOT SPARING THE BODY); not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.” (PAINFUL FASTINGS, CRUCIFYING THE FLESH AND ALL IT’S LUST THEROF, ETC)
Colossians Chapter 3
Put On the New Self
Col 3:1 “IF ye then be risen with Christ, SEEK THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE ABOVE, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Col 3:2 SET YOUR AFFECTIONS ON THINGS ABOVE, not on things on the earth.
(James 4:4 “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the FRIENDSHIP OF THE WORLD is ENMITY WITH GOD? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world IS THE ENEMY OF GOD.”Psalm 34:9-11 “O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. 10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing. 11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.”)
Col 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Col 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Col 3:5 MORTIFY THEREFORE YOUR MEMBERS which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
Col 3:6 For which things’ sake THE WRATH OF GOD COMETH ON THE CHILDREN OF DISOBEDIENCE:
GOD HATES THE SINRomans 1:18 “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all (SIN) ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness”GOD’S WRATH ABIDES ON THE SINNERJohn 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not (MEANING DOES NOT OBEY – A SINNER) the Son shall not see life; but the WRATH (ANGER/CONDEMNATION) of God abideth on him.”
Col 3:7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. (IN THE PAST)
Col 3:8 But now YE ALSO PUT OFF ALL THESE; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Col 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that YE HAVE PUT OFF THE OLD MAN WITH HIS DEEDS (SINFUL WORKS);
Col 3:10 And have PUT ON THE NEW MAN, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Col 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
Col 3:12 PUT ON therefore, as the elect of God, HOLY and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Col 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Col 3:14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Col 3:17 And WHATSOEVER YE DO IN WORD AND DEED, DO ALL in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Rules for Christian Households
Col 3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
Col 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Col 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
Col 3:21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
Col 3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
Col 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Col 3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for YE SERVE the Lord Christ.
Col 3:25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.”
God’s Righteous Judgment
Romans 2:1-11 “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. (GOD HATES A HYPOTRICAL JUDGER… A TRUE CHRISTIAN HAS TAKEN THE BEAM (WILLFUL SIN) OUT OF THEIR LIFE THEN THEN CAN JUDGE OTHERS IN HOPES THEY TRULY REPENT ADND FOLLOW AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS) 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things (WHO SIN WILFULLY). 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and DOEST THE SAME, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? 4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? 5 But after thy HARDNESS and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself WRATH against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; 6 Who will render to every man ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS (WORKS): 7 To them who by PATIENT CONTINUANCE IN WELL DOING seek for glory and honour and immortality, ETERNAL LIFE: 8 But unto them that are contentious, AND DO NOT OBEY THE TRUTH, but OBEY UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, INDIGNATION AND WRATH, 9 TRIBULATION AND ANGUISH, upon every soul of man that doeth evil (THAT WILFULLY SINS), of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man THAT WORKETH GOOD, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11 For THERE IS NO RESPECTER OF PERSONS WITH GOD.”)
Colossians Chapter 4
Col 4:1 “Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
Further Instructions
Col 4:2 Continue in prayer, and WATCH in the same with thanksgiving;
Col 4:3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: (A PRISONER IN ROME)
(Eph 6:20 “For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”)
Col 4:4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
Col 4:5 WALK IN WISDOM toward them that are without (CHRISTENDOM), REDEEMING THE TIME.
Col 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, SEASONED WITH SALT (NOT INJURIOUS), that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
(1Pe 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.)
Final Greetings
Col 4:7 All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a FAITHFUL minister and fellowservant in the Lord:
Col 4:8 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;
Col 4:9 With Onesimus, a FAITHFUL and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here. (THE STATE OF THE CHURCH IN ROME)
Col 4:10 Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister’s son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;)
Col 4:11 And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.
Col 4:12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand PERFECT and COMPLETE IN ALL THE WILL OF GOD.
Col 4:13 For I bear him record, that he hath a GREAT ZEAL for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.
Col 4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.
Col 4:15 Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and THE CHURCH WHICH IS IN HIS HOUSE.
Col 4:16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.
Col 4:17 And say to Archippus, TAKE HEED to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou FULFUL IT.
(John 17:13 “And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might HAVE MY JOY FULFILLED IN THEMSELVES.”)
Col 4:18 The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen. Written from Rome to Colossians by Tychicus and Onesimus.”
(Galatians 5:13-26 “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and YE SHALL NOT FULFILL THE LUSTS OF THE FLESH. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.”)
