
Are Jews Right to Say They Are the Chosen People of God?
The seed of the woman, the Messiah who was promised to crush the serpent’s head and offer redemption to mankind, has come forth through the ancient nation of Israel- not the modern one. Modern Jews can believe in Jesus Christ and be incorporated into the faithful remnant of Israel (which are faithful believers in Jesus)- yet the nation which is called Israel today is a counterfeit entity.
The same God who deputized Israel to destroy the idolatrous Canaanites in the Old Testament also sent the Roman Army to take vengeance on the Jews themselves after the Jewish nation rejected the Messiah whom the nation was planted and established to bring forth. Though the judgment itself is not recorded in the pages of the New Testament, the clearest warnings about Jerusalem’s destruction (which ended up happening in AD 70) at the hands of the Romans are surely recorded there (and these echo Old Testament warnings going back to the Law of Moses itself). The Jews had already been reminded that the land was not unconditionally theirs through the 70 year captivity in Babylon which the Lord brought upon them several centuries before that.
The Bible shows in Ephesians chapter 2 how faithful believers in Jesus Christ have been brought into Israel’s covenant with God. Natural Jews who reject Jesus Christ have no part in this covenant. There is no alternative covenant.
Romans 9:6-8: “Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.”
Being a natural descendant of Abraham does not put one in covenant with God. Ishmael and Esau prove this. The Apostle Paul said this much in Romans chapter 9. Korah, Dathan, Abiram, Achan the son of Carmi, Abimelech the son of Gideon, the sons of Eli the priest, Absalom the son of David, Jeroboam the son of Nebat, Ahab the husband of Jezebel, and the elders of Israel who opposed Jeremiah the prophet are just a few of many examples right from the Old Testament/Tanakh of natural descendants of Israel who were objects of God’s wrath because of the wickedness which they chose to pursue. They weren’t spared from His wrath because of their heritage.
The Lord even established among the descendants of Israel (even near descendants who were alive while Israel/Jacob yet lived) that being his natural descendant does absolutely nothing to spare one from wrath when He killed Judah’s sons Er and Onan in Genesis chapter 38 for their wickedness.
Nobody can help being born Jewish. This does not in itself make one evil nor does it make one righteous. Nobody should be treated in a spiteful manner nor treated preferentially for being Jewish. Jews in ancient times had an advantage in knowing and acceptably worshiping the true God- though even in ancient times many yet failed in this and went to hell. Salvation is of the Jews- because salvation is of the Jewish Messiah. It makes perfect sense that the Jewish people who do not obey His Gospel would be prime candidates to be especially great instruments in harming and deluding the world. Jews now have an especially great hole to dig out of due to the great wickedness and spiritual darkness which the Jewish people overall have plunged into.
Yes, the Bible is a Jewish book and Jesus was a Jew according to the flesh. What does that have to do with modern Israel which rejects Him? You owe no debt to Benjamin Netanyahu anymore than you owe the evil Israelites in the Old Testament like Korah, Dathan, and Ahab or to enemies of Jesus in the New Testament like Annas, Caiphas, and Judas Iscariot. Those who support modern Israel are complicit with its deceit and manifold sins.
2 Timothy 2:19: “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
Any love for any group or individual which enables the object of that love to trample on the rights of others isn’t godly love. It is rather downright sinful. You cannot support the modern nation of Israel without also justifying the nation’s unrighteous actions. Without unrighteous actions, modern Israel simply wouldn’t exist. Even the Zionist stronghold which is the Balfour Declaration contains this qualifying line regarding the British Government’s support of a homeland for the Jews in Palestine “it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine.”
Again, the remnant of the faithful of ancient Israel now are faithful Christians. That group is the remnant according to the election of grace. There is no other. That is why Jews and Gentiles need to believe in and obediently follow Israel’s Messiah Jesus in order to be in God’s grace.
Genesis 12:1-3 doesn’t validate supporting modern Israel at all. Since the blessing of Abraham is available to all families of the earth through Jesus Christ who is the promised seed of Abraham, how can supporting a nation which rejects and bitterly opposes Jesus be equivalent to blessing Abraham? It cannot be (and go ask that question to the people quoting Genesis 12 while claiming you need to support modern Israel).
Jews who do not receive Jesus Christ as the Jewish Messiah and faithfully follow Him are not God’s chosen people nor among God’s chosen people. It is that simple.
