Antinomianism, Easy Believe-ism, and Unconditional Security_ An Unholy Trinity of Deceit

The concepts of Antinomianism, Easy Believe-ism, and Unconditional Security are an unholy trinity of deceit which are expressed in several different ways through many different theologies. It is very hard to find a church which is not affected by these things in its doctrine- let alone one which practically exemplifies not being affected by these things in actuality.  They are plagues set forth in the name of Jesus Christ which cause untold millions upon millions who profess to love Him and believe in Him to live at enmity with Him and eventually be shut out of His kingdom on Judgment Day.

Antinomianism is the concept that Jesus has released Christians from having to keep the moral law of God.  Anyone who believes that God’s grace in Jesus Christ relieves them of their duty to do what is right in God’s eyes, in accordance with His eternal moral law, is surely an antinomian.  Example: An antinomian can say of a drunkard “It is a good thing he believes in Jesus.”  Antinomianism is closely related to, and impossible to practically separate from, the concepts of Easy-Believe-ism and Unconditional Eternal Security.

Easy-Believe-ism is the concept that Christ can be received without a total break from sin in one’s heart, without restitution for one’s past unlawful deeds, and without deeds which overall demonstrate genuine repentance from sin and a true intention to continue in obedience to Christ’s Word.

Unconditional Eternal Security is also known as OSAS (Once Saved Always Saved).  OSAS teaches that someone who has received Christ can never ultimately fall away from Him unto damnation.  It is obvious that Easy-Believe-ism teachers who don’t teach the necessity of repentance from sin would also teach Unconditional Eternal Security.

We see the utmost serious folly involved in these concepts, along with why their prevalence should be no surprise, so plainly in Luke 13:23-27: “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.  When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence (or, from where) ye are: Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.  But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.”

From logical and practical standpoints Antinomianism, Easy-Believe-ism, and Unconditional Security teachings are inseparable due to how they correspond so well with each other and due to how inconsistent and illogical it is to separate them.  Yet some, contrary to sound logic, teach Unconditional Eternal Security while claiming to teach the necessity of repentance from sin and deeds worthy of repentance in order to receive Christ.  It is obvious though that the preaching of Unconditional Security tells the Christian that they have a license to sin while communicating to everyone that they can turn to Jesus Christ without forsaking their sins.  None turn to Him acceptably nor continue in faith in Him while holding onto sin or letting sin cleave to them.

Psalm 66:18: “If I regard iniquity (or, wickedness) in my heart, the Lord will not hear me…”

Applying these things to a real life illustration: It is seen in Luke chapter 19 how Zaccheus rightly understood that to properly receive Jesus and become a true spiritual son of Abraham he needed to make restitution to those whom he had defrauded and to give half of his goods to the poor in order to tear his heart from the love of money and do the good which he had neglected for so long.  This is a rebuke which exposes Antinomianism, Easy-Believe-ism, and Unconditional Security as the devilish lies which they are.  It is evident and obvious that if Zaccheus turned back to sin, he’d be denying Jesus and he’d no longer be a partaker of God’s grace on track to inherit salvation.

None of this changed the slightest bit after the cross.  The Apostle Paul testified the following before King Agrippa.

Acts 26:19-20: “Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet (or, fit) for repentance.”

Paul also testified the following concerning the uselessness of the profession of faith from those who live in sin.

Titus 1:16: “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate (or, disqualified).”

In opposition to false antinomian grace, Jesus Christ’s true grace upholds God’s moral Law and is only offered in the context of the goal of actually redeeming us from our sins and transforming us into fitting subjects for His eternal kingdom.  You can’t have a part in that kingdom when you are in any way at enmity with the King’s law.  He loves righteousness and hates lawlessness (Hebrews 1:8-9).  He offers mercy and grace to those who will seek Him in coming into alignment with this attitude.  None can earn a way around this nor make another way to be accepted by the King.

The illegal immigrant defenders protesting about the law being enforced are wicked and ridiculous.  Yet many, many professing Bible-believing Christians are on the side of these in principle due to their Antinomianism- their denial that God’s moral law is in force and therefore practically binding on all people.  Any preacher who opposes this truth  is in sin, at the very least, for being a promoter and enabler of sin.

1 John 3:4: “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”

Psalm 119:142: “Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.”
