Judeo-Christian

Why the Term Judeo-Christian is Misleading

I will not use the term “Judeo-Christian” anymore- except in relation to talking about why it is a misleading term.

This is not due to the term being inherently inaccurate.

Faithful Biblical Christianity is built upon faithful Biblical Judaism.

The writers of the New Testament quoted from and appealed to the Old Testament (aka the Tanakh) constantly.

(If you really want to make your mind spin, study the Book of Romans and the Book of Hebrews- and try to come to a definite and sound conclusion about which book quotes from the Old Testament more).

In a sane world there would be absolutely nothing wrong with the term “Judeo-Christian.”

It is right to see the command to not murder, as well any other valid moral principle, as being consistent with both Biblical Judaism and Biblical Christianity.

Since God is eternal and unchanging, any true moral principle seen in the Old Testament/Tanakh is valid in Christianity; and likely has a clear direct reference in the New Testament as well.

Psalm 119:104-105: “Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.  Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

With the exception of the change regarding ceremonial requirements now due to Christ’s finished sin offering on the cross, and the resulting installment of the operation of His High Priesthood in heaven which has superseded the Levitical Priesthood (symbolized by the veil torn in the Temple when Christ died), the practical means of walking in the light of God’s Word have not changed at all in terms of how a Jew was to live in the times of the Old Testament (like King David in his faithfulness) and in terms of how a Christian is to be faithful to God now.

Psalm 119:142: “Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.”

What is so misleading then about the term Judeo-Christian?

In short: It connects Christianity with Judaism now; and it also connects Christianity with corrupted practices of Judaism throughout the ages.

It is proper and right for those who would be Christians to do what is reasonably in their power to disassociate themselves from the false teachings which have taken hold in the realm of professing Christianity; and to abhor, abstain from, and disassociate themselves from the sins which have been justified and even celebrated within the same realm (and let this message also be an exhortation to do that).

It is also necessary for those who would be faithful Christians to do the same in relation to the false teachings which have taken hold in the realm of Judaism; and to abhor, abstain from, and disassociate themselves from the sins which have been justified and even celebrated within the same realm.  Using the term Judeo-Christian unnecessarily (and there is never a need to use it) connects the Christian (in the minds of many people) to the sins and corruption in the realm of Judaism.

Consider: If an ethnically Jewish person turns to Jesus Christ, they are going into alignment with the faithful Judaism of the Old Testament/Tanakh.

Matthew 1:1 (the first words of the New Testament): “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.”

Romans 1:1-4: “Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead…”

Yet when an ethnically Jewish person truly turns to Jesus Christ, though they are coming to align with the faithful Judaism of the Old Testament/Tanakh, they are simultaneously going the corrupted Judaism which pre-dates Jesus Christ; and which sums up the Jewish religion altogether since AD 70 when God cast away Judaism and the political nation of Israel (expressed through the 2nd Temple’s destruction).

That corrupted Judaism is set forth in the teachings of the Talmud and Kabbalah.  These teachings contain a multitude of wicked, ungodly, and blasphemous things- even basically calling natural gentiles beasts meant to serve the natural Jews, saying some blatantly horrifying things against Jesus Christ, and saying many, many other things out of line with the Old Testament.

Certain elements of this corrupt Judaism which came to define Judaism post AD-70 are seen (not taught or prescribed- but seen) in the New Testament and rebuked severely by Jesus and the Apostles there.

The use of the term “Judeo-Christian” gives the impression that this corrupt element of Judaism is acceptable for Christians to associate with.  However, it is not acceptable; and you should not want to risk giving anyone the impression that it is.

The misleading impressions that are implicitly communicated by the term “Judeo-Christian” cause many to take for granted several especially harmful lies as being true.

Lies such as:

– The lie that Jews now and Christians worship the same God (my note about this lie- How can they worship the same God since Jesus Christ is God?  And how can the Jews worship the Father of Jesus Christ while rejecting Jesus Christ as the Son of God and their Messiah?  They can’t.  Don’t associate yourself with the god whom the Christ-rejecting Jews worship then.)

– The lie that Jews and Christians are spiritual brethren

– The lie that one can be a faithful Jew while rejecting Jesus Christ

– The lie that it is a Christian duty to support the modern nation of Israel

An internet search now will tell us that the earliest known use of the term Judeo-Christian is from 1821.  It was perhaps not used then in the way that it is typically used now- a way which implicitly promotes the previously mentioned lies.  However, that is the course which the use of the term has taken.

Consider Micah 5:2: “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”

And the Tanakh/Old Testament even shows that this ruler had to come to the 2nd Temple (which stood from only about 516 BC to AD 70).

Haggai 2:6-9: “For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts.  The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.  The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.”

That is referring to the Second Temple.  This means that the Jewish Messiah had to be born in Bethlehem within a period of less than 600 years.

Christian support for Jews who reject their rightful Ruler is also illogical (the Tanakh also teaches that Ruler was to be preached to all nations beginning from Jerusalem- and that did happen and is happening).  I’m not referring here to the basic, common sense neighborly support that each person owes to every other person.  I rather mean Christian support for an endeavor which totally goes against the teachings of the Bible regarding loving your neighbor as yourself; and which links those involved in the support with the idolatry and theft of the Jews who reject their Messiah in their endeavor to take back the land which they were kicked out of (for rejecting their Messiah).

Leviticus 26:38-42: “And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.  And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.  If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.”

Re-entry otherwise is illegal entry.  That is the verdict of the Law of Moses.  I would call it the “Judeo-Christian” verdict if it were ever proper to use that term.  Modern Israel’s illegal entry back into the land is not of God then.  They have not met the conditions set forth in the Law.  It has involved theft, murder, and many other oppressions.

The Bible also has many rebukes for those who support and justify thieves.  Doing such because it has been labeled by a multitude as the “Judeo-Christian” thing to do could not make it acceptable.
