7 Reasons the Roman Catholic Church Could Not Be Christ’s Church
One) It doesn’t excommunicate those who are pro-abortion- as a policy from the top.
Even if some clergy have refused to offer communion to politicians and others who are known to vote for pro-abortion legislation and who otherwise promote abortion, the fact that the Pope himself and the entire church entity has not insisted on such a policy from the top proves that the church is not unwavering in standing for truth. This should also cause one to wonder what compromises of righteousness have also happened within the church.
Two) It has adopted a multitude of Pagan practices.
Many, many rituals in the church are known to have their origins in Paganism. The celebration of Christmas is well known to be an adaptation of the Pagan holiday Saturnalia which the church adopted to try to reconcile Paganism with Christianity- in order to make “Christianity” (and I have that in quotes) appealing to Pagans. There is no good reason to believe that Jesus was born on December 25th- yet that date certainly falls very, very near the Romans’ celebration of Saturnalia. The indisputable adaptation of Saturnalia to bring about what we know as Christmas is just one of many elements of Pagan worship implemented into the Catholic Church. Even one is too many.
Three) It is filled with idolatry.
It should not be considered a strange thing that the Catholic Church, with its statues and images, has eliminated the 2nd commandment (seen in Exodus 20:4-6) and tried to compensate for that by dividing the 10th commandment into two. Idolatry is multi-faceted, and one key aspect of idolatry is the attempt to represent God with a graven image (and remember Jesus is God); and to even involve images, statues, etc. in attempts to worship God would also qualify as idolatry.
It is also worth noting here that Christianity originated in ancient Jerusalem; not in Rome. God was very careful not to let idol worship prevail among the Jews in Jerusalem until the time His worship ceased to be centered there when the Second Temple was destroyed in AD 70. He even caused the First Temple to be destroyed beforehand, and exiled the Jews to Babylon at the same time for over half a century, in order to purify Jerusalem from the idol worship which had taken hold there. Rome on the other hand has always been a hub of idolatry. It makes sense that a mass counterfeit Christian entity would originate in Rome. The mysterious woman, who is called in Revelation 17:5 “Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth”, is said to sit on seven mountains (or, hills- the word in the original Greek text could mean either) a short time later in Revelation 17:9. It is common knowledge that the City of Rome is built on seven hills.
Four) The church’s mandatory clergy celibacy goes directly against Apostolic practice.
How can a church be the genuine Holy, Apostolic Catholic Church following Apostolic tradition when it commands the very opposite of what many of Christ’s Apostles practiced? It can’t be. Don’t let the sophistry of Roman Catholic theologians cause you to justify and accept this obvious inconsistency of their church. Many of Christ’s Apostles were married (you just have to read the Bible to see that).
1 Timothy 4:1-3 (this was written by the Apostle Paul, who was single and celibate; an exception to the norm among Christ’s Apostles): “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.”
Five) Its system of mediation has no basis in Scripture and opposes Christ’s High Priesthood.
1 Timothy 2:5-6: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”
In the Bible, it was the Levitical Priesthood under the Old Covenant which gave way to Christ’s High Priesthood under the New Covenant. That is it. There is no other established Priesthood. Any other priestly order must be a counterfeit which can’t lead to authentic justification before God.
Six) Jesus being in heaven until He returns means that He can’t be physically present in the Mass like the Catholic Church teaches.
Hebrews 9:24-28: “For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
Hebrews 10:12-13: “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.”
Seven) Roman Catholic theologians are not agreed among themselves about what defines authoritative Catholic doctrine; and what decrees from the Catholic Church hierarchy ought to be submitted to.
The Catholic catechism states that “there is no salvation outside of the Church.” But what does that mean? The Catholic theologians debate that among themselves. Are the so-called alleged early church fathers’ writings authoritative? If so, which ones? They weren’t all in agreement on many issues. Is Vatican II authoritative? How can you logically say Vatican II is not authoritative while saying you submit to the current Pope who expresses full agreement with Vatican II? Did the office of the Pope get hijacked by an imposter? If so, when? And has that alleged line been successfully kept from being hijacked? Are non-Catholics eligible for the alleged place they call Purgatory? Or is that only for Catholics who still need some purification? How do you know what sins will get you sent to Hell instead of Purgatory? The Bible says that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8), but when is a lie venial or mortal sin according to the Catholic Church? Who gave them the authority to even put sins into the categories of mortal and venial sins anyways? By the way also: You could cause a big stir among a group of Catholics by asking them if missing Mass is a mortal sin. Many Catholic theologians would say yes. Most Catholics deliberately don’t attend mass weekly though (that is, they often don’t go to Mass even when they could have gone). There are probably many Catholics who’d laugh and say they know the answers to all these questions- yet they would all have much disagreement among themselves (unless it was a publicity stunt of course).
When you break down issues, the unity which this church boasts of is not what it claims.
When you practically forsake the authority of the Bible and put the sayings of fallible men in its place like the Catholic Church has, it breeds confusion- confusion which cannot be solved until you go back to the authority of the Bible.
And when the authority of the Bible is received, then the Roman Catholic Church must logically be rejected.
