Titus Chapter 1
Titus 1:1 identifies the apostle Paul as the author of the Book of Titus.
Date of Writing: The Epistle to Titus was written in approximately A.D. 66. Paul’s many journeys are well documented and show that he wrote to Titus from Nicopolis in Epirus.
Purpose of Writing: The Epistle to Titus is known as one of the Pastoral Epistles as are the two letters to Timothy. This epistle was written by the apostle Paul to encourage his brother in the faith, Titus, whom he had left in Crete to lead the church which Paul had established on one of his missionary journeys (Titus 1:5). This letter advises Titus regarding what qualifications to look for in leaders for the church. He also warns Titus of the reputations of those living on the island of Crete (Titus 1:12).
In addition to instructing Titus in what to look for in a leader of the church, Paul also encouraged Titus to return to Nicopolis for a visit. In other words, Paul continued to disciple Titus and others as they grew in the grace of the Lord (Titus 3:13). A true, humble Christian never wants to stop being discipled by elders in the faith.
Greeting
Titus 1:1 “Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, ACCORDING TO THE FAITH of God’s elect, (“ELECT” NOT IN THE WICKED CALVINIST SENSE BUT MEANING GOD ELECTED A WAY FOR GENTILES ALSO. THE CHRISTIAN WERE NOT CHOSEN IN THE PLACE OF JEWS… OF COURSE JEWS CAN COME TO THE MESSIAH BUT THEY MUST COME HIS WAY WITH TRUE REPENTANCE IN GODLY SORROW AND ENDURE ‘TIL THEE END. THOSE WHO BELIEVE JEWS WILL MAKE HEAVEN WITHOUT REPENTING AND ACCEPTING JESUS AS THE TRUE MESSIAH WILL END UP WITH THEM IN THE ETERNAL LAKE OF FIRE).
Tit 1:2 In HOPE of ETERNAL LIFE, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Tit 1:3 But hath in due times manifested his word THROUGH PREACHING, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
Tit 1:4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Qualifications for Elders
Tit 1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting (CONTINUE WITH THE WORK I STARTED SAYS PAUL), and ordain (APPOINT) elders in every city, as I had APPOINTED thee:
Tit 1:6 If any be BLAMELESS, the husband of one wife, HAVING FAITHFUL CHILDREN not accused of riot or unruly. (OH HOW MANY HAVE UNRULY CHILDREN IN THE “CHURCH” TODAY AS THEY STICK CELL PHONES, IPODS, ETC IN THEIR FACES INSTEAD OF THE WORLD OF GOD. THEY ARE DAMNED)!
Tit 1:7 For a bishop must be BLAMELESS, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
Tit 1:8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
Tit 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF TEACHING OTHER BRETHREN, AS THE BIBLE CLEARLY STATES James 3:1 “My brethren, be not many masters (TEACHERS), knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.” ALL THE ATTRIBUTES WE JUST READ ARE FOR EVERY TRUE CHRISTIAN).
Tit 1:10 For there are MANY UNRULY DECEIVERS AND VAIN TALKERS, specially they of the circumcision: (SPEAKING OF JUDIAZERS BUT SURELY NOW PERTAINS TO LUKEWARM “CHRISTENDOM”).
Tit 1:11 Whose mouths must be stopped (UNMASKED, EXPOSED), who subvert whole houses (TURNING TRUE CHRISTIANS INTO APOSTATES BY TEACHING THE “BROAD WAY” IN DISGUISE OF THE “NARROW WAY” PROMISING SALVATION WITHOUT THE NEED FOR OBEDIENCE), TEACHINGS WHICH THEY OUGHT NOT, for filthy lucre’s sake. (MANY DO IT FOR MONEY).
Tit 1:12 One of themselves, even a prophet (POET) of their own, said, The Cretians are alway LIARS, evil beasts, slow bellies. (THE TYPICAL “CHRISTIAN” TODAY WHERE THERE IS NOTHING NEW AFTER THEIR SUPPOSED CONVERSION. THEY STAY ADDICTED TO THE WORLD AND ALL IT’S ENTERTAINMENT WHICH DAMNS THE SOUL).
Tit 1:13 This witness is true. Wherefore REBUKE THEM SHARPLY, that they may be SOUND IN THE FAITH; (DON’T HOLD BACK A HARSH REBUKE IN HOPES THE TRULY REPENT PROVING THEIR SALVATION WITH HOLY AND PERFECT LIVING).
Tit 1:14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth. (LIKE THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES WHO WERE HYPOCRITES AND ADDED TO THE WORLD OF GOD).
Tit 1:15 UNTO THE PURE ALL THINGS ARE PURE (ALL KINDS OF FOOD IS PURE): but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure (THEIR ENTIRE EXISTENCE IS UNPURE); but EVEN THEIR MIND AND CONSCIENCE IS DEFILED. (THEY HAVE NO PART OF CHRIST AND ARE DEFILED).
Tit 1:16 THEY PROFESS TO KNOW GOD; but IN WORKS THEY DENY HIM, being ABOMINABLE, and DISOBEDIENT, and unto EVERY GOOD WORK REPROBATE.”
Titus Chapter 2
Teach Sound Doctrine
Titus 2:1 “But speak thou the things which become SOUND DOCTRINE:
Tit 2:2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. (ALL CHRISTIANS MUST HAVE THESE TRAITS. OF COURSE NEW CHRISTIANS WILL NOT BE FULLY “SOUND IN FAITH” IN TERMS OF BIBLICAL KNOWLEDGE BUT UNDER PROPER CHURCH ORDER WILL GROW).
Tit 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh HOLINESS, not false accusers, not given to much wine, TEACHERS OF GOOD THINGS; (IN PRIVATE NOT IN PUBLIC INSTRUCTION THE CHILDREN AND YOUNGER WOMEN IN THE WAYS OF THE LORD. HOW TO LIVE FOR HIM IN MODESTY, OBEDIENCE TO THEIR HUSBANDS AND CHURCH AUTHORITY, RIGHTEOUSNESS, ETC. A WOMAN IS TO NEVER USURP AUTHORITY OVER MEN).
Tit 2:4 That they may teach the young women TO BE SOBER, to LOVE THEIR HUSBANDS, to LOVE THEIR CHILDREN,
Tit 2:5 To be DISCREET, CHASTE (MODEST, PURE, NOT MADE UP IN EVERY SENSE), KEEPERS (WORKERS) AT HOME, GOOD, OBEDIENT (SUBMISSIVE) to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Tit 2:6 Young men likewise exhort to be SOBER MINDED. (MEANING DISCREET, SELF RESTRAINED, NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE WORLDS WICKEDNESS).
Tit 2:7 IN ALL THINGS shewing thyself a pattern of GOOD WORKS: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, (ALL TEACHING IS USELESS LEST ONE PRACTICES WHAT HE PREACHES).
Tit 2:8 SOUND SPEECH, THAT CANNOT BE CONDEMNED; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed (HE THAT IS UNSAVED MAY BE ASHAMED), having no evil thing to say of you. (PUT TO CONFUSION BY THE POWER OF TRUTH AND INNOCENCE).
Tit 2:9 Exhort servants (SLAVES) to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; (OF COURSE NOT UNTO SIN BUT EVERYTHING ELSE).
Tit 2:10 Not purloining (NOT STEALING, EMBEZZLING OR WASTING THE MASTERS GOODS), but shewing all good fidelity; (WHY?) that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour IN ALL THINGS. (A MOST POWERFUL EXAMPLE AND COMMAND FOR SERVANTS TO OBEY THEIR MASTERS TO GLORIFY JESUS JUST LIKE THE COMMAND 1st Peter 3:1-6 “ Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may WITHOUT THE WORD BE WON by the CONVERSATION (THE REVERENCE, THE RESPECT, THE SERVANTHOOD) of the wives; 2 While they behold your chaste conversation (MEANING HOW THE WIFE ACTS, DRESSES, CONDUCTS HERSELF DAILY, ETC) coupled with fear. 3 Whose adorning let it NO BE THAT OUTWARD ADORNING of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4 But let it be THE HIDDEN MAN OF THE HEART, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of A MEEK AND QUIET SPIRIT which is in the sight of God of great price. 5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: 6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.”
Tit 2:11 For the GRACE OF GOD that bringeth salvation hath HAS APPEARED TO ALL MEN, (NOT SOME “ELECT” OR “PREDESTINED” FEW THAT THE GODLESS CALVINISTS OR REFORMED BAPTISTS PROCLAIM TO THEIR ETERNAL DESTRUCTION).
Tit 2:12 Teaching us that, DENYING UNGODLINESS and WORLDLY LUSTS (ALL THINGS CONTRARY TO GOD), we should live SOBERLY, RIGHTEOUSLY, and GODLY, IN THIS PRESENT WORLD; (NOTHING WILL BE PURIFIED IN THE WORLD TO COME (HEAVEN) THAT IS NOT CLEANSED IN THIS).
Tit 2:13 LOOKING for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Tit 2:14 Who gave himself for us (AS A RANSOM TO REDEEM US), that HE MIGHT REDEEM US FROM ALL INIQUITY, and purify unto himself a peculiar people (JESUS IMPUTES HIS RIGHTEOUS TO THE TRUE CHRISTIAN THAT LIVES “SOBERLY, RIGHTEOUSLY, and GODLY, IN THIS PRESENT WORLD), ZEALOUS of GOOD WORKS.
Tit 2:15 These things SPEAK, and EXHORT, and REBUKE with all AUTHORITY. LET NO MAN DESPISE THEE (MEANING LET NO MAY DESPISE YOU WITH A CAUSE. SURELY A TRUE CHRISTIAN IS “HATED BY ALL FOR HIS NAMESAKE” – MARK 13:13.) REBUKE DEFINITION FROM STRONG’S GREEK DICTIONARY
H3198 yâkach [yaw-kakh] A primitive root; to be right (that is, correct); reciprocally TO ARGUE; causatively to decide, justify or CONVICT: – appoint, ARGUE, CHASTEN, CONVINCE, CORRECT(-ion), daysman, DISPUTE, JUDGE, maintain, PLEAD, reason (together), rebuke, reprove (-r), surely, in any wise. Total KJV occurrences: 59
Proverbs 27:5-6 “OPEN REBUKE is better than secret love. 6 FAITHFUL are the WOUNDS of a FRIEND; but the KISSES (WORLDLY LOVE) of an enemy are DECEITFUL.”
1 Timothy 5:20 “THEM THAT SIN REBUKE BEFORE ALL, THAT OTHERS MAY FEAR.”
2 Corinthians 5:11 ”Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade (REBUKE) men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.”
2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, REBUKE, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”
Titus 1:13 “This witness is true. Wherefore REBUKE THEM SHARPLY (WHY?), that they may be SOUND IN THE FAITH”.
Titus Chapter 3
Paul instructs Titus what to teach concerning Christians’ behavior towards the world: How he is to treat heretics: When and where he is to meet Paul.
Be Ready for Every Good Work
Titus 3:1 “Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers (OF THE WORLD, NOT SPIRITUAL), to obey magistrates, TO BE READY to every GOOD WORK,
Tit 3:2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness UNTO ALL MEN. (A CHRISTIAN IS TO NEVER RAIL, SLANDER, DEFILE OR DEFAME ANYONE).
Tit 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. (A GRAVE SIN IS TO NOT PRESENT THE TRUE GOSPEL WHEN REPROVING SOMEONE AND TO REMEMBER THAT WE ALL WERE ONCE DECEIVED, GOD HATERS, ETC. A CHRISTIANS PAST SINS SHOULD LEAD THEM TO BE LONG SUFFERING TOWARDS THE SPIRITUALLY BLIND. OF COURSE A HARSH REBUKE IS ALLOWED WHEN SPEAKING TO FALSE TEACHERS AND OTHER SUCH APOSTATES. WE CAN BE FIRM IN OUR EVANGELISM BUT NOT A RAILER WITH NO HEART FOR GOD).
Tit 3:4 But after that the kindness (GOODNESS) and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, (WE SHALL “WALK AS JESUS WALKED” 1ST JOHN 2:6).
Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit; (THIS IS A VERSE THE “GREASY GRACE” HERETICS WREST TO THEIR DESTRUCTION. THEY WILL TELL YOU YOU CAN’T WORK YOUR WAY TO SALVATION AND IN THE TRUEST SENSE, THIS IS CORRECT, BUT THEY TEACH THAT IT MEANS THAT YOU DON’T HAVE TO “WORK RIGHTEOUSNESS” AND THAT “ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS ON EARTH” WHICH IS BLASPHEMY AS IT’S COMMANDED OVER AND OVER AGAIN THROUGHOUT THE HOLY BIBLE. THIS VERSE STATES THAT HUMANS CAN’T DO WORKS TO EARN SALVATION, JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY AND YOU MUST GO TO HIM, THE PERFECT SIN-OFFERING, IN GODLY SORROW, REPENT AND LIVE HOLY LIVES TO REMAIN IN THE VINE. SO, JESUS DID HIS WORK ON THE CROSS AT CALVARY, NOW, YOU CHRISTIAN HAVE TO Luke 9:23-25 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, LET HIM DENY HIMSELF, and TAKE UP HIS CROSS DAILY, and FOLLOW ME (ALL ACTIONS ONE MUST DO TO ABIDE IN THE VINE). 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?”)
Tit 3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; (WHICH HE “POURED OUT” ON US AS WATER WAS POURED OUT IN BAPTISM. THIS POURING OUT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ENCOMPASSES THE GRACE RECEIVED BEFORE, IN, AND AFTER BAPTISM AFTER ONE IS TRULY REPENTANT).
Tit 3:7 That being justified by his grace (BEING FREED FROM SIN BY THE INDWELLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT RESIDES IN EVERY BELIEVER THE MINUTE THEY BECOME BORN-AGAIN), we should be made heirs according to THE HOPE of eternal life.
Tit 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that THEY WHICH HAVE BELIEVED IN GOD MIGHT BE CAREFUL TO MAINTAIN GOOD WORKS. These things are good and profitable unto men.
Tit 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. (EXAMPLE: FLAT EARTH FOOLISHNESS, CONSPIRACY THEORISTS AND THE LIKE ARE VAIN AND UNPROFITABLE. THEY CREATE NOTHING BUT USELESS STRIFE THAT DOES NOT LEAD ONE TO SALVATION).
Tit 3:10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; (OF COURSE WE LOVE THE FORMERLY MENTIONED LOST SOULS AND WHEN POSSIBLE, EXHORT THEM TO LEAVE THE HERESIES THEY ARE IN AND COME BACK TO CHRIST DOING PROFITABLE WORKS. IF THEY DON’T LISTEN AFTER A FEW ADMONITIONS, REJECT THEM AS THE GODLESS HERETICKS THEY TRULY ARE).
Tit 3:11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted (HAS BECOME PERVERSE), AND SINNETH, BEING CONDEMNED of himself. (HE SINNETH WILLFULLY AGAINST THE TRUTH).
Final Instructions and Greetings
Tit 3:12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.
Tit 3:13 Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.
Tit 3:14 And let ours also learn to MAINTAIN GOOD WORKS for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful. (YOU MUST KEEP YOUR SWORD SHARPENED AT ALL TIMES AND NEVER LET EVEN A LITTLE LEAVEN IN LEST BEFORE YOU KNOW IT YOU ARE CHASING THE SAME UNFRUITFUL HERESIES, HAVE BECOME UNPROFITABLE FOR THE MASTERS WORK IN HELPING THE POOR, BUILDING UP TRUE BRETHREN, EXHORTING THE YOUNGER IN THE FAITH, ETC).
Tit 3:15 All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen. It was written to Titus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Cretians, from Nicopolis of Macedonia.”
