Is There Even One Televangelist Who is Not a Deceiver?
Is there even one preacher / televangelist on television who is not a blind guide? This is dealing with those who are on television networks which have national and international reaches. It is not reasonable to include preachers who are limited to regional and local television networks here. Nevertheless, things which expose widely known preachers as blind guides expose many others too.
Many, if not most, of the most popular televangelists are Prosperity Gospel preachers. Examples of these are Joel Osteen, Paula White, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Oral Roberts, Joyce Meyer, T.D. Jakes, and Creflo Dollar. This is a false gospel. And in the case of the women preachers, they are also violating what the Bible commands concerning women teaching men and exercising spiritual authority over them. Any woman who is acting like she is a spiritual leader over men, no matter what she is saying, is a blind guide since she is a living violation of the Bible’s counsel.
Prosperity Gospel preachers are among the most grievous wolves out there. They prosper financially by convincing their hearers to give to them as an essential ingredient in their prescribed formula for obtaining financial wealth. Their formulas are lies which involve twisting Bible passages and omitting the counsel in the Bible which exposes them as liars.
The cheats and liars in the secular realm are likely not as evil as Prosperity Gospel preachers. Jesus’ words to the Jewish religious leaders in the 1st century who had become rich through deceitfully taking advantage of others using the true God’s name surely apply to these wretched liars. They dare to use the Bible and the name of Jesus to persuade people to give them money which they have no right to receive. Prosperity preachers, especially the really popular ones on television, live in great luxury on money from people who are often struggling to survive.
Matthew 23:13-14: “But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.”
It is also amazing and pathetic that more Prosperity Gospel preachers do not end up in prison on earth before they die and burn in an extra hot section of hell.
Jesus told the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31 to some who defended their covetousness under a cloak of spirituality. The Law of Moses itself testifies that those who are covetous, and those who neglect the poor, are wicked and on course to go to hell’s eternal fire. Jesus saying blatantly that no man can serve God faithfully while serving mammon in the Gospel accounts was only echoing what the Law of Moses already taught. The very few people in the Bible who were both righteous and materially rich did not get rich by telling people that God had promised to make them rich and taking their money like the Prosperity Gospel preachers do.
Can you imagine Jesus and His Apostles preaching with a 1-800 number in front of them and owning luxury cars (if there had been television and cars in the 1st century)? Saying yes requires a severely deluded mind. Untold millions of people today don’t discern that everyone who owns luxury cars and preaches in Jesus’ name with 1-800 numbers in front of them is a con-artist and deceiver.
The following verses eliminate any and all doubt that the Prosperity Gospel is a false gospel.
1 Timothy 6:6-10: “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment (clothing) let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil (i.e. all sorts of evil): which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
What about the televangelists who are neither Prosperity Gospel preachers nor women violating the Bible’s counsel concerning what their proper role is? Isn’t there at least one of those who is not a deceiver? Absolutely not. You might hear some truly good things sometimes from some of them, yet they all compromise and deceive somehow. Every single one of them is a blind guide who will mislead anyone who listens to them for very long. Neither Billy Graham nor Charles Stanley nor anyone else is an exception.
If they are not Prosperity Gospel preachers and/or out of order women, the others still deceive in at least one (and probably all) of the following ways (and likely in several others also).
They teach unconditional security doctrine and give people the impression that if they believe in Jesus they could never possibly end up in hell if they live in sin. They echo the lie that the serpent told in the garden when they essentially tell Christians that they will not surely die if they partake of what God has forbidden. They give the impression that faith in Jesus which saves can be separated from subjection to His authority. This is utterly deceitful.
They do not expose the falsehood of the Catholic Church and warn people to flee from it. Billy Graham and Charles Stanley did not do so. Probably almost every other well known televangelist failed to rebuke the Catholic Church in front of their large audience (at least without apologizing for doing so afterwards). Someone who did so, but pathetically apologized afterwards, is John Hagee.
They do not faithfully stand against the nation which is so powerful that one risks censorship to even talk about it negatively. Some major television preachers like John Hagee are outright cheerleaders and apologists for Israel. Others may not talk about it as much, yet still teach the lie that God gave the Jews an unconditional right to the land. They do not teach about the judgment on the Jewish nation in AD 70 and hold to the precedent established thereby. They often even blatantly teach the lie that God has a separate covenant with the Jewish people than He does with faithful believers in Jesus Christ. They discount the reality that those who are naturally Jewish which have not been cut off from God’s covenant are faithful Jewish believers in Jesus- while faithful Gentile believers in Him are partakers of the same covenant as Jewish believers in Him are.
There is not even one evangelist on a wide reaching television network who is not a deceiver.
Every popular televangelist is a coward who is afraid of those with the most money and power. Those who control the major television networks would never give a platform to a preacher who was preaching the whole counsel of the Bible.
