Can You Lose Salvation? O.S.A.S? Eternal Security?
It is abundantly clear that one can lose salvation by the above bible truth! You can’t be “taken away” from the “book of life” if you are not already saved. If that is not enough, how about these biblical truths below. We pray you come to the TRUTH.
“Calvinists, who deny that salvation can ever be lost, reason on the subject in a marvelous way. They tell us, that no virgin’s lamp can go out; no promising harvest be choked with thorns; no branch in Christ can ever be cut off from unfruitfulness; no pardon can ever be forfeited, and no name blotted out of God’s book! They insist that no salt can ever lose its savor; nobody can ever “receive the grace of God in vain”; “bury his talents”; “neglect such great salvation”; trifle away “a day of grace”; “look back” after putting his hand to the gospel plow. Nobody can “grieve the Spirit” till He is “quenched,” and strives no more, nor “deny the Lord that bought them”; nor “bring upon themselves swift destruction.” Nobody, or body of believers, can ever get so lukewarm that Jesus will spew them out of His mouth.
They use reams of paper to argue that if one ever got lost he was never found. John 17:12; that if one falls, he never stood. Rom. 11:16-22 and Heb. 6:4-6; if one was ever “cast forth,” he was never in, and “if one ever withered,” he was never green. John 15:1-6; and that “if any man draws back,” it proves that he never had anything to draw back from. Heb. 10:38,39; that if one ever “falls away into spiritual darkness,” he was never enlightened. Heb 6:4-6; that if you “again get entangled in the pollutions of the world,” it shows that you never escaped. 2 Pet 2:20; that if you “put salvation away” you never had it to put away, and if you make shipwreck of faith, there was no ship of faith there!! In short they say: If you get it, you can’t lose it; and if you lose it you never had it. May God save us from accepting a doctrine, that must be defended by such fallacious reasoning!”

EXPLAINED:
According to the word of God NO ONE can pluck you out of His hands:
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
John 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
so, it is clear that another person cannot “MAKE” one fall away from Christ, it does not preclude however someone’s ability to walk away themselves, or their ability to be duped and err causing THEM to again need conversion to the truth. (James 5:19,20)
1. What does it take for a person to cease from abiding in the vine? What I mean is, just what does it take to “walk away”?
What does the Bible say?
What you have done maybe unwittingly is fallen prey to the deadly doctrine of devils, the one point of Calvinism, “perseverance of the saints” the “P” in TULIP, otherwise known as Once Saved Always Saved. The bible lists many things one can do to turn from the truth. There is so much written about it I find it difficult to narrow down the amount of scriptures I could give for it. So I will give some O.T., some from Jesus, some from John, some from James, some from Paul, some from Luke, some from Jude.
I could also cite the early church (before 325 a.d.) as to what they taught and believed, Because they NEVER once taught OSAS, rather they openly and plainly preached against it.
Using hermeneutics there is a principle called the “law of first mention” I will cite what God has declared from the beginning. This principle is to guide us into the truth and set precedent for how we are to understand and interpret the Bible.
Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: (This is the first mention of OSAS in the Bible, it is a lie that worked then and works now. All forms of the security in sin doctrine also known as Once Saved Always Saved, or Eternal Security, or the Perseverance of the Saints (different names but they all mean the same thing), is a variation of this same false and damnable teaching from the serpent in the garden.
What did it take for Adam and Eve to cease from abiding in the vine? The simple answer is; believing a lie. They believed like many do today and in the days of Noah that they would not die because they were secure in Him no matter what they did. They relied on the past to secure their future, God warned otherwise saying “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
Eze 3:20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Eze 3:21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.
2Ch 15:2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.
Luk 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
Luk 15:18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I HAVE SINNED AGAINST HEAVEN, and before thee,
The son seemed to know he ceased abiding in the vine.
The scripture clearly shows he was dead and was made alive again. This is a picture of Christians who “cease to abide” and are found again in this life and renewed unto repentance.
Luk 15:24 For this MY SON WAS DEAD, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
Luk 15:32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this THY BROTHER WAS DEAD, and is alive again; and WAS LOST, and is found.
The son ceased to abide when he believed he could live his own life apart from his father, in other words when he believed he didn’t have to abide.
Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Joh 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered (physical death); and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned (the second death, spiritual death in Hell and the Lake of fire).
“YE ARE THE…BRANCHES” Not your works, not your future rewards, YE are! “If a man” who is portrayed by the “branches” does not abide, what happens to him? HE is cast forth AS a branch. Since the bible does not classify plants as living or “having life” like many of us do, it does not refer to a plant as dying, rather it uses the words “fade, fade away, or withered” which gives a clear picture of natural death. (James 2:26 Mat. 10:28, Heb. 9:27) Men gather them (branches) and they are (what are “they”? the branches) burned.
This, contrary to OSAS deceiving teachers, is not speaking of the world. This was spoken to the Disciples, 11 of them after Judas left to betray him at the last supper. He is warning those disciples to not only remain in Him but also to teach this to the church. He also is not referring here to what Judas did “as an unbeliever” for you cannot have it both ways, either Judas at one time believed and fell away as prophesied or he never knew Jesus and Jesus “never knew Him”. He was known by him and did miracles in Jesus’ name, he preached the gospel, cast out devils, and was so outwardly righteous that the disciples suspected themselves as being the betrayer before they thought of Judas.
Jas 5:19 Brethren, IF ANY OF YOU DO ERR FROM THE TRUTH, and one convert him; (it is possible for brethren to err from the truth)
Jas 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
Erring from the truth will separate you from the life that is found in the truth. This is addressed to the unbeliever? NO! To the “Brethren;” that brethren who errs is now counted as a sinner (Because error in doctrine leads to sin [which separates us from God, always has always will ISA. 59:2] like in OSAS) that is in need of conversion. What is at stake? His rewards? NO! It is not his rewards that will be saved but his SOUL from eternal death.
Speaking of the nation of Israel and contrasting God’s severity in cutting them off from him and giving to them the means of salvation, that is Jesus Christ crucified because of sin, received at repentance (godly repentance that leads to a holy life and a deep sorrow for sin one has committed against God) Paul speaks here of the danger of pride in thinking, like the Jews did, that they can sin and still be God’s people.
Rom 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
He warns us to fear, like Jesus many times did, THE POLAR OPPOSITE of the secure in sin false gospel. OSAS says we don’t have to fear; instead we only need be in awe. Did Jesus say be in “awe” of the one who can throw both soul and body in Hell? The OSAS need to correct Jesus right here, saying we don’t need to fear Jesus, don’t you know that once you saved me I am always yours no matter what I do? Don’t you know when you look at me you only see yourself? (Read Rev. 2, 3 to dispel that myth) What happens to the goodness of God that Christ showed us in saving us if we return to the vomit of our old life or the mire of the sin he cleansed us from? We shall be cut off! He is using personal singular pronouns here, not speaking to the whole of the “gentile nation” or the gentiles who are unbelievers. He is speaking specifically to the reader, the believer, here using words like “thee” not “ye” and “thou” as opposed to “you” which is used in the singular OR the plural. These far from being “mental gymnastics” are English grammar and are used to help understand the WORD, which is to be understood, Jesus who IS the Word.
1Ti 1:19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
Some having put away their good conscience which comes with obeying God and the faith which is necessary for salvation. Shipwrecked faith cannot save anymore than a shipwreck can take you on a pleasure cruise. Was it a ship that could have brought you all the way home? It could have if it was not wrecked. It once sailed above the deadly waters but at some point lost its way and crashed on the deadly rocks of error and sin. Like Peter it once had mastery over the waters and raging seas but when it counted the storm as greater than the one that makes the seas to obey Him it foundered and sunk. It started with believing a lie. Like once afloat always afloat.
Note: Paul knew that Timothy’s saving faith could become shipwrecked, as Hymenaeus and Alexander’s faith did, and told him what to do to prevent this from happening to himself. The implications of that are: (a) A Christian has free will and human responsibilities under “grace” that can affect our salvation. (b) A Christian cannot just throw off all holy restraints and be negligent. For him to think that since he has been sealed by the Holy Spirit he is eternally secure or that God will continue to hold on to him, even if he lets go of God, is fallacious!
Jud 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Tit 1:16 They profess that they know God; (these are the OSAS professors who tell you they are saved and secure) but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
These are those who teach that if you hear someone tell you to obey God they are teaching a false salvation by works or are legalistic. They in effect teach that their disobedience is proof of their faith while the obedient are reprobates for fearing God and hearing is voice and following Him. They teach that to obey is impossible, even though Jesus promised his yoke is easy and his burden is light. It is the disobedient Pharisees that put the burden of impossibility of obeying God’s word while appearing to be righteous on the outside. Mat. 23 How we can recognize these pharisees and those who become twofold children of Hell are those who turn people from God’s ways of holiness pureness and righteousness under the pretense of grace. With good words and fair speeches they deceive the simple, this explains mega Churches in this country without revivals. If there were EVER that many Christians, true Christians in one location there could not help but be a revival. But the bible doesn’t speak of revivals in these last days but of widespread apostasy. It s true God will pour out His Spirit on those who obey Him for the Holy Ghost is a gift to those who obey Him.
Act 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
Jud 1:5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
The Children of Israel is a well known picture of salvation, being delivered from bondage and sin, but many grumbled and complained and rose up to play wanting their best life now nor were they satisfied with the Bread of life they were given, they saw his salvation were baptized and yet many fell, some were swallowed into Hell alive. These were an example to all those who would here after LIVE ungodly.
Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
This is clearly NOT the gospel of OSAS, which does not teach to “observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you” but calls anyone who does a false teacher of a “works based salvation” gospel, or a legalistic Pharisee. We are saved by grace through faith and not that of ourselves so that no man can boast. If I have ever seen any boast it is those who think they can sin and go to heaven claiming they are the elect. Which means that they could hardly be saved by faith, since they also teach that God regenerates you, then gives you faith. Those who preach OSAS are false preachers of a different gospel, they take the fear of God away through a false sense of security, a mark of all false religion including the Japanese who were taught if they give their life for the Emperor they would have a special place in Heaven. The Muslims who teach that the only way they can be assured of Heaven is to die a “martyr” (murderer). Then there are the Roman Catholics who taught if you died in a holy and just war you would be assured a place in paradise. Then comes along the Lutherans and Calvinists who taught a doctrine of holy war just like the Roman Catholics, only all they had to do was say a prayer and it was all over, you are done a place in Heaven is secure no matter what you do from then on.
Who knows how many people wind up in Hell believing OSAS but those who preach that demonic lie is assured of one thing, that is eternal torment, for they are liars who lead people astray into eternal horror. They are those who persecute the true believers and viciously attack them and their character, which lie about them, and separate themselves from them having not the Spirit, and call them heretics, when it is they who proclaim heresy as truth. Mat. 5:11, 1 Pet. 3:16, Luke 6:22,23
There is not a single verse in the bible that explicitly states that “present or future” sins are forgiven, NO WHERE! But there are two verses which specifically state that “past” and “old” sins are forgiven. One often violated rule of biblical interpretation is that the plain scripture must always interpret the more obscure. If there are scriptures in other words that speak of “past” sins being forgiven, you cannot read into any text a present or future forgiveness without scripture which is just as plain. In other words there would have to be one verse that says “we are forgiven of our past present and future sins”, There is no such verse in all of scripture. One CANNOT build a doctrine on an idea then find verses to make it fit. This is where all error finds its way into scripture and later becomes a doctrine (tradition handed down from the gnostics) that makes the word of God to none effect. Rom. 4:14, Matt. 7:13
Rom. 3:25 and 2 Peter 1:9 Where Peter shows that we cannot bear fruit and sin at the same time. The fruit being the proof of salvation, not the profession being proof but bearing of fruit that is brought to maturity in a Christian’s life. Speaking of Peter I promised a verses from Him as well.
2Pe 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, (Rom 16:18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.) they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. (That is those who escape from those who teach OSAS)
2Pe 2:19 While they promise them liberty, (As in “this is the true gospel,” OSAS) they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. (Sin is what brings one into bondage, it is what has always and will always separate one from God, this is exactly what the false OSAS “gospel” allows for.)
2Pe 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,(In other words, to use the limited vocabulary of the proponents of the false gospel, they were born again believers) they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. What is worse than never being saved? Having been saved and falling away!
2Pe 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. (Those who obey the holy commandment are called legalists and Pharisees by these false teachers. Note: Pharisees DID NOT OBEY GOD!)
2Pe 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
The only place OSAS can be said to exist in the bible (apart from Satan’s lie in the garden to deceive Eve through subtilty Gen 3:4) is where it is refuted by holy men of old like Jude. It is a Manichean, Augustinian, Gnostic heresy. Not taught nor supported in the Bible nor is it taught by the early Church. It is taught by the Roman Catholic “reformers” such as Luther and Calvin who admit they got their doctrine from the father of the Roman Catholic Church… Augustine.
The Bible is also clear on those who WILL NOT inherit the kingdom of God, that means go to Heaven.
Mat 18:32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: (He was at one time forgiven, born again)
Mat 18:33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
Mat 18:34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
Mat 18:35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
We must forgive all if we hope to see heaven, and forgive as we have been forgiven, totally without any reserve or desire to see justice on that person.
1Co 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 1Co 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
No exception for a believer. Unlike what the false teachers who change the grace of God into a license to sin will tell you, grace does not mean we can continue to sin, it teaches the exact opposite. Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Tit 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
This is true grace.
Eph 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Eph 5:4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. Eph 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words (THE OSAS lie): for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience (who are the children of disobedience? It is simple, those who disobey.) Eph 5:7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
The wrath of God is on ALL disobedience. If we could not be partakers with them this warning is a waste of breath. We can become partakers of not only their sin but can them be partakers in the wrath if we do not repent.
Gal 5:7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? Those who teach we don’t need to obey are those who would bewitch you with a lie from the Devil. What is this lie? You don’t need to obey the truth you are secure in your sin. You only have rewards to lose, don’t worry be happy. Gal 5:8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. Another way to say this might be Jesus did not say that because you are saved by faith that you don’t need to obey the truth. Gal 5:9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. A little lie makes the truth a lie. It changes the true grace into a lascivious permission slip to indulge yourself instead of die to self, to love self over God and your neighbor, it turns brethren into wicked sinners in need of conversion. James 5:19,20 1 Cor. 5:11-13
Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. :17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. :18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. :19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, :20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance (Variance 1. In law, an alteration of something formerly laid in a writ; 2. Any alteration or change of condition. Websters 1828 Dictionary.) This is a clear description of the grace changers who change the conditions to unconditional. It is really an inconsistent universalism it that some are saved because God saved them from the beginning meaning their faith has nothing to do with salvation as they were already predestined to be saved and can never lose their salvation no matter what they do. Now that is a reason to boast, to have that kind of favor from God? But the Bible clearly says God is NO respecter of persons, saved or not we will be judged according to what we do not what we say. 1Co 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer (a scoffer or insulter), or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. 1Co 5:12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? 1Co 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
That person who does these things is not to be considered “saved” by Christians but are to be put away as a wicked person. No mention of “praying for him” or “showing him the love of Jesus” but of separation. This is the gospel, it is loving as God can and will work through our faith in obeying his word. We know he is longsuffering but we need to obey and not take the place of God’s Spirit in trying to redeem this person. We need to obey and believe in faith, not being a hearer only that deceives himself but being a faithful doer of the Word of God. Imagine if those who call themselves Christians actually start obeying the Word of God, what God could do in our midst.
Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
(The clear implication being those who do not overcome sin and walk in victory over it in this life according to God’s true grace Tit. 2:11,12 will be blotted out of the book of life.)

Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. (Notice the turning away from sins to follow Jesus is His remedy?)
Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Those who hear His voice and follow him are those to whom he promises eternal life, if they will endure to the end.
Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Rev 3:22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. Notice it is the churches who are being addressed here.
