Christians, Don’t Make This Deadly Error
A huge stumbling-block among professing Christians is an ungodly support for the nation of Israel and the Jewish people. Many think that Jews are in God’s grace even as they reject Jesus Christ, refusing to heed their own Scriptures which testify of Him as the Messiah who is the only way of salvation.
Many also see Israel and the Christ rejecting Jews as some benign form of sinners. Though they might think they need to be converted to faith in Jesus Christ to be in the grace of God and to be heirs of salvation, they yet see the Jews as some nice relatively righteous people who are much, much less wicked than other sinners. They see them as such good sinners that they have no problem blessing Israel, and no problem praying for the peace of Jerusalem more than other cities, as if God and righteousness are somehow being vindicated through the Jewish people now having peace and prosperity.
Many overlook that the Jewish heritage not only involves all the times which God worked through the Jews and did special things for them; it also includes the many times the Jews disobeyed God, the many scathing rebukes they were given for this right in the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament), and the horrifying judgments which God brought upon them eventually for this. Most notably among these, His sending the Romans against them to destroy their Temple and scatter them among the nations for their rejection of Christ and their persecution of His servants who bore a faithful testimony of Him. The Jewish heritage then now even involves guilt for the blood of Christ which their ancestors shed, which Jews who do not turn to Jesus as their King and Lord in truth have upon them in a special way, by virtue of their float with the wayward tide originating with the sin of their ancestors. Jews who reject Christ have been cut off from covenant with God. They thus have no part among God’s people nor any right to identify with the righteous Jews in the Old Testament, whom God worked wonders through and was not ashamed to identify Himself with.
You just have to read the Books of Jeremiah and Ezekiel to see how wicked and overall corrupt they were before around the time they were carried away captive to Babylon. That time was not unique. In Jesus’ time they had departed from God’s commandments and ways exceedingly. John the Baptist was sent to preach repentance to call them back to the Lord and to prepare them to receive their Messiah. He was also warning of coming judgment if the Messiah was rejected. This was foretold right in their very own Scriptures.
Malachi 4:4-6: “Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments (the Law of Moses itself is a schoolmaster to Christ which testifies of Him and the way of salvation through Him).. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers (referring to turning the Jews to an agreement of heart with their righteous Jewish ancestors who walked before God obediently in a righteous faith which does not fashion God’s worship to suit man’s carnality; Jews who reject Christ are Cains and not Abels), lest I come and smite the earth with a curse (which happened already in AD 70; and which is of course a preview of Judgment Day).”
You just have to read the Gospels to see how wicked the Jews as a whole were in Jesus’ time and to understand the sins which they were practicing. The shallow religiosity which made allowances for unrighteousness, the pride of thinking they were superior and entitled over other people because they were Jews, and the many innovations they made to water down the Law of God to give themselves a license to sin were occasions of severe rebuke from Jesus! The Jewish nation turned on their Messiah, crucified Him, and as a whole continued to reject Him and not heed His Apostles until God judged them severely in AD 70. Their Temple was then destroyed again, the faithful remnant (who were Christians) escaped, and the remaining Jews multiplied again only to be repeatedly destroyed again by the Romans as they rebelled against them in following false Messiahs (notably Simon Bar Kochba in the 2nd century).
So here’s what the professing Christians who support modern Israel and bless the Jewish people today overlook: The sins that the Jews practiced which were the cause of their rejection of His Christ; and their general unfaithful, dishonest dealing with their own Scriptures are still practiced by the Jews who reject Christ today! They have never changed! And now whatever faithful remnant of Jews remain are faithful Christians. And these are now rejected and outcasts among the Jewish people.
So do not bless them then nor justify them nor think “they are not so bad.” Love the Jewish people by seeking to win them to Christ. That necessarily includes being ready to rebuke them and testify against them over their rejection of Christ and their manifold sins, including and especially often believing that they are so special to God that He would not judge them for their sins like He would other men. They do not heed their own Scriptures! Respect of persons, favoring Jews over non-Jews for no good reason, is common among the Jews. And it is not different than how many professing Christians who praise Jesus with their mouth think that they are in His grace while their heart is far from Him, as they reject Him and refuse His reign by not doing whatever He says. And it is no wonder that many professing Christians then minimize or justify the unrighteousness of Christ rejecting Jews, thinking that they are better off before God than others who reject Christ! Don’t fall prey to this mindset regarding professing Christians, Jews, or any other group of people- or you will be guilty of being a respecter of persons yourself.
John 3:33-36:“He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” Earlier in the same chapter we are told in John 3:17-20: “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.”
And then we read in Romans 2:6-11: “Who (God) will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God.”
Listen to God’s verdict about modern Israel and the capital city of the Jews.
Revelation 11:8: “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.”
By flying an Israel flag and/or blessing Israel now you might as well be flying a LGBTQ pride flag or an image to the Egyptian gods!
Proverbs 17:15: “ He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.”
Proverbs 24:23-25: “These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment. He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.”
But you may not make the deadly error of justifying Jews who reject eternal life by rejecting Christ as the Son of God and King of mankind. You may not be deceived into thinking that the imposter people of God which is modern Israel is in covenant with God and rightfully belongs in that land in their grave sin. Yet if you are not submitted to Jesus Christ yourself and bringing forth the fruit of righteousness which true faith in Him produces, then you are an enemy of God too!
Matthew 21:33-44: “Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country: And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise. But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him. When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen? They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.”
1 Corinthians 10:1-14: “Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.”
ALL idolaters will have their part in the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8)
1 John 5:20-21: “And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”
Jonah 2:8: “They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.” Don’t be Sodom nor Egypt spiritually yourself!
1 John 2:15-17: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
Galatians 5:19-26: “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.”
1 Peter 4:1-3: “Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:”
Don’t be like the unbelieving Jews have been by thinking you are unconditionally chosen by God, or by thinking your Christian profession protects you from God’s wrath, or by any means presuming your religiosity will save you while you persist in sin; while you are in any way stubborn to worship God in spirit and in truth; while you in anyway resist correction from His Word and do not walk in its light.
Matthew 3:1-12: “In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
The disobedient Jews’ rejection by God must be acknowledged, yet it should be taken as a stern warning, not as an occasion to despise them nor be puffed up in any way.
Romans 11:19-23: “Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.
Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou (spoken to true Christians) standest by faith. Be not high-minded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.”
Romans 2:4-6: “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and long-suffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds”
2 Thessalonians 1:7b-10a: “When the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe”
