Science and the Bible
Science principles described in the Bible centuries before their discovery by man:
The Earth is round (not flat as men used to think):
Isaiah 40:22 — It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
Proverbs 8:27 — When He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep,
Earth is hung on nothing in outer space:
Job 26:7-8 — He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing. He binds up the water in His thick clouds, Yet the clouds are not broken under it.
Distance from east to west is infinite (distance north to south is finite):
Psalm 103:12 — As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Ecclesiastes 1:7 — All the rivers run into the sea, Yet the sea is not full; To the place from which the rivers come, There they return again.
Job 36:27-28 — For He draws up drops of water, Which distill as rain from the mist, Which the clouds drop down And pour abundantly on man.
Amos 5:8 — He made the Pleiades and Orion; He turns the shadow of death into morning And makes the day dark as night; He calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out on the face of the earth; The Lord is His name.
Amos 9:6 — He who builds His layers in the sky, And has founded His strata in the earth; Who calls for the waters of the sea, And pours them out on the face of the earth— The Lord is His name.
Psalm 8:8 — The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas.
Isaiah 43:16 — Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea and a path through the mighty waters,
Lightning step leaders:
Job 28:26 — When He made a law for the rain, And a path for the thunderbolt,
The stars are innumerable:
Jeremiah 33:22 — As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.’ ”
2 Peter 3:10-12 — But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what mannerof persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
