Biblical Love Charity Almsgiving

What is Biblical Love?

An incredible 3 part study on Biblical Love. It’s not the fluffy, non-convicting false “love” the world has. It’s true godly love that convicts and chastened. It’s true charity…

STUDY NOTES PART 1

There is truly nothing greater than GOD’s love.

Even Aleister Crowley has his own version of love “live & let live”! It’s man’s desires he says that make the “law” ultimately “do as thou wilt”.That is anti-Christ!

Every lukewarm Christian has some of this blasphemous teaching in it!

We must align our love with God’s love, not the lust of this world(sinners).

1Jn 2:15  Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jn 2:16  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jn 2:17  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

1Pe 2:11  Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

2Pe 1:4  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Rom_8:7  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

The will of God is equated to the love of God. A carnal mind is opposite (lust f the world).

Men have made their own attempts to escape the lusts of the world but did NOT escape the world completely!

People throughout history have really missed the mark. There are so many ways this can happen, pay attention.

God gave his law to us in love. HE must command and enforce what is right & true as His laws are perfect.

Deu 33:3  Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words.

We have no lesser standard in loving us and He cannot cease from being God (or lie). He is sovereign and his laws can never be altered with NO EXCEPTIONS. He must punish ALL SIN as a transgression of the law.

Fools think that promoting sin (saved in sin) is OK, it’s right from the devil and accursed! Galatians 1:8-9

God is a benevolent dictator. Yes, this is truth. He does not need anyone’s acceptance.

If we are to walk in his love, we must love benevolence too.

Having benevolence is having and showing good will. His benevolence is making a way for us to be saved by sending His one and only begotten Son as a Sin Offering. By His suffering for the sake of truth he has expressed that to the ultimate extreme. This is NOT a love to excuse us to go our own way (sin). This is true faith (Grace through Faith). Cleansed by the Blood…

False grace says you can be excused even if you are not heeding His instructions (laws). Rubbish!

For us to properly love God, we must crucify our fleshly lusts and be totally subject to God’s word. We must forsake our own interests.

Mat_16:24  Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

In the KJV version LOVE is “CHARITY”. It’s interchangeable.

Psa 91:14  Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

Our love for God must be proper to be able to love our neighbour.

The Great Commandment
Mat 22:34  But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
Mat 22:35  Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
Mat 22:36  Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Mat 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38  This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Love is from the heart in Spirit & Truth:

Rom 2:28  For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
Rom 2:29  But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

The Way of Love
1Co 13:1  Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity(love), I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
1Co 13:2  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity(love), I am nothing.
1Co 13:3  And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity(love), it profiteth me nothing.

How foolish people think the bar of salvation is set lower than the 3 verses above… If you have not real love, you are perishing. Most people want others to like them and will compromise His perfect law as to not cause strife/separation. This is deadly!

1Co 13:4  Charity(love) suffereth long, and is kind; charity(love) envieth not; charity(love) vaunteth not itself(it does not desire to be applauded), is not puffed up, (See Matthew 6:1-18)
1Co 13:5  Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
1Co 13:6  Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
1Co 13:7  Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
1Co 13:8  Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
1Co 13:9  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
1Co 13:10  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
1Co 13:11  When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
1Co 13:12  For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
1Co 13:13  And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Holding onto to one act of darkness (willful) that you have not repented from you are perishing.

Walking in the Light
1Jn 1:5  This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1Jn 1:6  If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1Jn 1:7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jn 1:8  If we say that we have no sin(when we really do), we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (see chapter 5)
1Jn 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

It’s possible to give to the poor, help your neighbor, etc in vain(like out of guilt). This does not get rid of your sin! Outward “good works” without inward love = death. It’s not your agenda, it’s HIS. Now, it’s commanded of a Christian to help the poor, the downtrodden, the orphan & widow and the “least of these our brethren” versus going on fancy vacations, to amusements that simply suck money from the Kingdom, etc.

Jer 8:9  The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

Rebukes are sometimes necessary but must be done biblically. With levity.

Tit 3:1  Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
Tit 3:2  To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
Tit 3:3  For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Tit 3:4  But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Tit 3:5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

2Ti 2:24  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
2Ti 2:25  In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
2Ti 2:26  And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

We need to be patient with others weaknesses. Do not rebuke out of frustrations or false assumptions. “As such were some of you”… Do not envy sinners…

Job 36:5  Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

Pro 23:17  Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
Pro 23:18  For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

Act_26:29  And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

Communism & Socialism forms of government are evil as it’s envious…. (you don’t have what other people don’t have, etc).

Joh_14:15  If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Mat_6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

PART 2

We do not define love, God does:

Eph 4:12  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13  Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Eph 4:14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15  But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Eph 4:16  From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Eph 5:15  See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
Eph 5:16  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Eph 5:17  Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

Talking about someone thinking that they see the whole picture yet they don’t… You can know an idol god is nothing but you have to consider you can’t partake in ANY WAY as to stubble others.

1Co 8:1  Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
1Co 8:2  And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
1Co 8:3  But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

We should want to understand the word of God. We should want to memorize and LEARN scripture. Those who want to impress in memorizing, etc are not walking in the Spirit if they are puffed up even if they don’t openly showing off…

Ecc 10:12  The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

Godly love is gentile and peaceable. Not overbearinng without compromising purity. A sign of being puffed up where orthers can’t approach you for correction, etc.

Jas 3:17  But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Very convicting…
1Co 4:6  And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.
1Co 4:7  For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

Another way one can be puffed up is to do a ministry you are not qualified to do. You will see below the priests were the only allowed to burn incense… Now King Uzziah was stricken with leprosy for this great sin.

2Ch 26:16  But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
2Ch 26:17  And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men:
2Ch 26:18  And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
2Ch 26:19  Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.
2Ch 26:20  And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.

Like joining a new fellowship/church… Those who seek to immediately run the show instead of starting as the “least of these” needs to be rebuked… They are puffed up and not truly in Jesus. They must prove themselves first. This goes for woman “teachers/pastors” as they are in great sin. They are spiritually disqualified.

1Ti_2:12  But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

1Pe 4:10  As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
1Pe 4:11  If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

This applies to railers, filthy talkers(sexual and otherwise), preaching on private property, disrespecting the police, etc. (on the street, in the pulpit or right next door). It also forbids going INTO nightclubs, bars, etc… These things are against scripture and are UNSEEMLY!

1Co 13:5  Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

“Doth not behave itself unseemly”

“I never wish to meet with those who affect to be called “blunt, honest men;” who feel themselves above all the forms of respect and civility, and care not how many they put to pain, or how many they displease. But let me not be misunderstood; I do not contend for ridiculous ceremonies, and hollow compliments; there is surely a medium: and a sensible Christian man will not be long at a loss to find it out. Even that people who profess to be above all worldly forms, and are generally stiff enough, yet are rarely found to be rude, uncivil, or ill-bred.” [Adam Clarke]

1Co 13:5  Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

“seeketh not her own”

Php 2:4  Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

“Love is never satisfied but in the welfare, comfort, and salvation of all. That man is no Christian who is solicitous for his own happiness alone; and cares not how the world goes, so that himself be comfortable.” [Adam Clarke]

Love considers their choices… Will you be stumbled? Will it stumble OTHERS?? Could a weaker brother be stumbled by your actions?

This also goes to obeying your local fellowship/church leaders…

Are you willing to forsake your fulfillment? Are you willing to walk the narrow path no matter what. Even if you lost family, your job, your status in the community, etc

Almsgiving is so important.

3 categories of spending:

1) Necessities needed for survival
2) Not a necessary but things that will help your ministry, may refresh you, etc.
3) Luxury, excess, etc. Fancy vacations, fancy cars, jewelry,marble floors, italian tile, etc, etc, etc.

1Co 13:5  Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

“is not easily provoked”

Love acts rationally. Men especially need to be careful when rebuking someone… It’s easy to think that the time you scream and explode on them is biblical but you need to be VERY careful… Even Jesus was rational when cleansing the temple. There was no loss of temper by Jesus. Temperance, appetite, etc all need be put under control by living in the Spirit of God.

“The meaning of the phrase in the Greek is, that a man who is under the influence of love or religion is not “prone” to violent anger or exasperation; it is not his character to be hasty, excited, or passionate. He is calm, serious, patient. He looks soberly at things; and though he may be injured, yet he governs his passions, restrains his temper, subdues his feelings.” [Albert barnes]

1Co 13:5  Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

“thinketh no evil;”

“It means, does not reckon, charge, or impute to a man any evil intention or design. We desire to think well of the man whom we love; nor will we think ill of his motives, opinions, or conduct until we are compelled to do so by the most unbreakable evidence. True religion, therefore, will prompt to charitable judging; nor is there a more striking evidence of the destitution of true religion than a disposition to impute the worst motives and opinions to a man.” [Albert Barnes]

Never wait to rebuke someone for something, even if it’s small… Don’t wait until there is strife or an argument as to appear you are doing it out of revenge. Love necessitates a rebuke out of love. Even when someone rebukes YOU out of love, if their motive was right you should be aware they have your best interests at heart.

“friends don’t let friends drive drunk”…

“Friends don’t let friends go to hell”.. they rebuke.

Rebuke in the scripture:

PROPER REBUKE:
Lev 19:17  Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

IMPROPER REBUKE: (accusatory, revenge, etc)
Lev 19:18  Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

We need to be careful with our rebukes. Also, when one rebukes us wrongly, we should patiently correct them and address the rebuke in a godly way. (Unless it’s so obviously false, then say silent). Never get offended.

Pro 17:15  He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

Respecting a person becaus they are family oor a “friend” is NOT God”s love!
Pro 24:24  He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
Pro 24:25  But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
Pro 24:26  Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.

Joh 7:7  The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

Luk 17:3  Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
Luk 17:4  And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

Jas 5:19  Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
Jas 5:20  Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Eze 33:8  When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Eze 33:9  Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

1Co 13:6  Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Love does take pleasure in fools (sinners). We are to never joke about sin.

Pro 14:9  Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

Love does not compromise, ever! That is not loving your neighbor. Love is not TOLERANT.

Pro 28:4  They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

Rom 1:32  Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Rejoicing in iniquity is when you don’t rebuke someone out of love and say “it’s OK”, or “”you will get there”,  OR IF YOU REMAIN SILENT, etc. They may not have tomorrow!

The wicked Jerry Springer once said “Everybody wants me to get to Heaven because if I go, everyone goes”

Psa 119:142  Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.

Love will not call anyone with the law a bad name. Love rejoices when others obey the LORD.

Psa 119:165  Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

2Jn 1:1  The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
2Jn 1:2  For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
2Jn 1:3  Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
Walking in Truth and Love
2Jn 1:4  I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
2Jn 1:5  And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
2Jn 1:6  And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
2Jn 1:7  For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Those who deny how man shall live from ANY part of God’s word is a deceiver and antichrist.

Everything God does is LOVE. True love expressed:

Psa 97:1  The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.
Psa 97:2  Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.
Psa 97:3  A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.
Psa 97:4  His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.
Psa 97:5  The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
Psa 97:6  The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.
Psa 97:7  Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods(rulers of the world).
Psa 97:8  Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD.
Psa 97:9  For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.
Psa 97:10  Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.
Psa 97:11  Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
Psa 97:12  Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

God’s law teaches us to work no ill towards our neighbor.

Mar_12:31  And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Rom 13:8  Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Rom 13:9  For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Rom 13:10  Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. (love does not replace the law, it obeys it)
Rom 13:11  And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
Rom 13:12  The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Rom 13:13  Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Rom 13:14  But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

We love our neighbour by obeying God and walking as HE walked.

1Jn_2:6  He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

When the bible talks about the “flesh, it talking about the tendency to sin, not something that we are born with that is “in” us. You were not born with sin in your “flesh”!

Rom 8:4  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

God’s Spirit will NEVER lead us to sin. Thus we walk in the SPIRIT.

Part 3 to conclude this study:

People will say we “just need to love” and does not follow the commands of Biblical Love. The bible defines, not man! There is no such thing as “love” without the righteousness of GOD. Worldly love is wicked! Here is TRUE biblical LOVE:

1Jn 1:5  This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1Jn 1:6  If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1Jn 1:7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1Jn 2:4  He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1Jn 2:5  But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
1Jn 2:6  He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

1Jn 2:28  And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
1Jn 2:29  If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

Rom 8:4  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

1Jn 3:1  Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
1Jn 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
1Jn 3:3  And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
1Jn 3:4  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
1Jn 3:5  And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
1Jn 3:6  Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
1Jn 3:7  Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
1Jn 3:8  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
1Jn 3:9  Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1Jn 3:10  In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
1Jn 3:11  For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
1Jn 3:12  Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
1Jn 3:13  Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
1Jn 3:14  We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

Many will use the following verses to try to get around Biblical Love and not give the WHOLE counsel of God(as we just did above, and just a small part at that)!

1Jn 4:7  Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
1Jn 4:8  He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1Jn 4:9  In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
1Jn 4:10  Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (2nd Cor 5:10-21)
1Jn 4:11  Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
1Jn 4:12  No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
1Jn 4:13  Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. (Romans 8:4)
1Jn 4:14  And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
1Jn 4:15  Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
1Jn 4:16  And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
1Jn 4:17  Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
1Jn 4:18  There is no fear(dread) in love; but perfect love casteth out fear(dread): because fear(dread) hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (Not speaking to the fear of God, it’s talking about someone that is not right with God and is feeling condemnation).
1Jn 4:19  We love him, because he first loved us.
1Jn 4:20  If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
1Jn 4:21  And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

Loving God means keeping His commands which includes loving your Christian brethren… God’s love never negates His righteous judgement. His love implies his benevolence.

1Jn 5:1  Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
1Jn 5:2  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1Jn 5:3  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
1Jn 5:4  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1Jn 5:5  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

We must obey and love His law (righteousness).

Heb 1:8  But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Heb 1:9  Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity(sin); therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Mat 1:21  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Back to 1st Corinthians 13:

Be as optimistic as you can without compromising. It’s easy to write people off and to assume bad things if you are not careful. Have HOPE! It’s right to pray for Christians slipping away and not saying (they are heretics, or they are never coming back)… Pray to see a little spark wanting the best for them. Have a benevolent attitude. Never say “this is too much”… This is one of the most challenging scriptures for sure.

1Co 13:13  And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity(true Biblical Love, the Love of God).

1 Corinthians 13:8 [John Wesley Commentary]  “Love never faileth – It accompanies to, and adorns us in, eternity; it prepares us for, and constitutes, heaven. But whether there be prophecies, they shall fail – When all things are fulfilled, and God is all in all. Whether there be tongues, they shall cease – One language shall prevail among all the inhabitants of heaven, and the low and imperfect languages of earth be forgotten. The knowledge likewise which we now so eagerly pursue, shall then vanish away – As starlight is lost in that of the midday sun, so our present knowledge in the light of eternity.”

Love can fail on this earth and they will not make it to Heaven. One MUST endure ’til the end (their last breath on earth). THEN, love will never cease.

Mat 24:12  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Mat 24:13  But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Living by true faith is walking in love (obedience).

Gal 5:6  For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Rom 8:22  For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
Rom 8:23  And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Rom 8:24  For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
Rom 8:25  But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Jud 1:3  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Jud 1:4  For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

We must withstand… We must fight unsound, accursed doctrine (Gal 1:8-9).

2Ti 4:1  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2Ti 4:2  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2Ti 4:5  But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

CONTINUE – TEACH – WARN (a key verse rebuking Calvinism)

1Ti 4:16  Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Col 1:28  Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
Col 1:29  Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

2Co 10:4  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
2Co 10:5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
2Co 10:6  And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

We need to take out hands “off the steering wheel” and do HIS will, not ours. No compromise, ever!

Heb_11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Paul talking about the resurrection. Are YOU working?

1Co 15:58  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

We have the same race to run with the same rules but the circumstances are different for each person. I can get very complicated but we must keep trusting and seeking Him. We must purify ourselves always:

1Jn 3:3  And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Psa 25:12  What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.

This must be the foundation of our love. This is the love that remains, forever for those who OBEY. There is no middle ground (Revelation 3:16). Lukewarms perish! You can’t have one foot in the world and one in the Kingdom.

Rev 22:3  And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

We remain steadfast no matter what we must go through. No matter what family, job, “friends”, etc we may lose.

Php 2:12  Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Php 2:13  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Php 2:14  Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
Php 2:15  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Php 2:16  Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

What did it cost Christ to redeem us (Christians)?

Heb 5:7  Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
Heb 5:8  Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
Heb 5:9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Php 2:9  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Php 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Php 2:11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

We are called to walk as HE walked. We must live holy and biblically perfect.

1Jn_2:6  He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Talk about an example of Jesus doing all things:

Joh 21:25  And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

In the last days we will live in constant danger relying supernaturally on Jesus in order to remain faithful to Him.

Rev 14:9  And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
Rev 14:10  The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
Rev 14:11  And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Rev 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Rev 14:13  And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

We must follow Jesus even to the point of laying down our life for Him. There are many things we will endure for Christ’s sake.

Joh 21:15  So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
Joh 21:16  He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Joh 21:17  He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Joh 21:18  Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
Joh 21:19  This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

Rev 1:8  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
